Under the general supervision of the Manager, Hazardous Construction Materials Group the incumbent investigates buildings for asbestos-containing building materials and other Designated Substances specified under the Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act.
The incumbent reviews project scope, coordinates, inspects abatement projects, writes reports, maintains and upgrades database, and ensures compliance with the University's Management Programs.
Your responsibilities will include: Conducting routine building inspectionsApplying established standards when sampling suspect designated substances for minor renovation projectsProviding safety training and ensuring adherence to safety procedures and standardsProviding asbestos training to tri-campus staffCreating and reviewing CAD drawing sets of asbestos floor plansExplaining project drawings to contractorsPlanning and implementing health and safety reviews and audits that support operational objectivesMaintaining sustained care and attention during the work period, impact extends beyond immediate work area; responsible for things that may cut, crush, blind, or burnReviewing project drawing, specifications and scopeMonitoring and assessing consultant and contractor performanceUpdating post project recordsEssential Qualifications: Master's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience (i.e.
Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of Licensed Trade or member Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists).
CRSP is an asset.Minimum five years experience in assessing designated substances and other health and safety risks.
Experience with report writing, maintaining database and supervising abatement jobs.
Must have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written) with a strong sense of diplomacy and ability to work in a team environment as well as independently.Excellent customer service skills providing detailed information and providing assistance and support to clients/customers.Proficiency with management software database.Assets (Nonessential): Data entry skills with ability to work with large databases.To be successful in this role you will be: Multi-taskerOrganizedProceduralTeam playerClosing Date: 01/15/2025, 11:59PM ET

with an annual step progression to a maximum of $115,169.
