Key Responsibilities:Reconciliation, Reporting reviews and Sign-off:Maintain and update the geological database at all times.
Capture and update face sampling and any drilling data into the geological databaseInterpret and identify any structures, dolerites, intrusions etc and advise the Mine Manager immediately on indication or discovery of the same with proposed corrective actionPlan and conduct any in-pit, in-fill exploration drilling required along with logging, sampling, analysis and update of geological database and block modelEnsure that a drill grid pattern is maintained at all timesGenerate and implement any Stand Operating Procedures required for all the activities of the Grade Controller Pit Geology and Grade Control:Ensure that the mining contractor does not undermine or overmine the coal seamEnsure that the mining contractor conducts mining in a manner that no/minimal loss of coal occurs in the corners of the pit/blockEnsure that the mining contractor conducts mining in a manner that no contamination of coal takes place during mining or ROM coal stockpiling and with minimum generation of coal finesEnsure that the handling and stockpiling of coal is done in a manner that no contamination of coal takes place during mining or ROM coal stockpiling and with minimum generation of coal finesGeological Sample collection including pit face sampling, ROM composite, dispatch to the laboratory and updating the coal seam quantity and quality in geological model.Monitor and supervise coal loading, movement and ensure correct coal is tipped at correct stockpile areaCoal Stockpiling:Ensure that a coal stockpiling plan is prepared and maintained at all times, taking into account:Present daily and monthly stockpile report containing volumes, age of coal, temperature of stockpiles, coal qualities of individual stockpiles and weighted average qualities etcCoal combustion should be managed daily, and corrective action taken to avoid or subside any combustion (Done weekly and if stockpile is at risk, it is done daily)All stockpile areas to be marked and have a sign boardPrepare and submit Daily/monthly Crushing and or Screening operations report.
Review survey certificates for the same verify densities of stockpiles and sign off the sameFeed of coal into plant must be reviewed and advised in comparison to the wash yields in the geological model and optimum wash yields selected.
Blend of feed to be advised and implemented if required to achieve optimum yields.
Monitor coal wash yields and behavior in the plant and liaise with plant metallurgistHuman Resources and Team Leadership:Ensure proper working relationships between your subordinate staff existsBe a team leader for your teamEnsure the deliverables for each employee in your team are implementedDrive people business initiatives in relation to business objectivesManage KPIs and performance for employees in your team in partnership with HRAdditional Geological modelling and exploration:Management of exploration drilling campaignDesign exploration plan ensuring that the pit layout does not extend into areas where coal has outcroppedPreparing reserve statement with qualities per mining blockMinimum requirements:Bachelors degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, or a related field7 to 10 years of relevant experience in geological exploration, resource evaluation, or environmental geologyProven track record of working on significant projects in industries such as mining, oil and gas, construction or environmental consultingExperience in supervising teams or leading geological projectsProficiency in geological mapping, analysis, and reporting tools (e.g., GIS, AutoCAD, Surpac, or other specialized geological softwareKnowledge of SHE regulations and industry best practices to ensure safe and environmentally responsible project executionStrong project management skills, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocationStrong verbal and written communication skills to present complex geological data
