SENIOR FIREFIGHTERFIRE & RESCUE SECTION
DIRECTORATE COMMUNITY SERVICES
Task Level T10R175 992 to R228 432 (Basic Salary)
R281 129 to R348 901 (Total Cost to Council Package)Job Purpose:To perform various tasks associated with responding to and dealing with fires and emergency situations, supervision of junior ranks, rendering basic medical care and participating in fire safety work and training exercises as well as upholding station and equipment maintenance to ensure the delivery of effective and efficient emergency service in order to protect lives and property of the citizens and visitors to Knysna.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
? Carries out fire-fighting and emergency operations by responding to and dealing with fires, rescues and related emergency and non-emergency humanitarian incidents.
? Perform Fire and Safety training and preparation functions by participating in training drills, simulation exercises, physical fitness training, fire safety inspections and life safety education activities.
? Ensures compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Act in respect of the shift, by conducting the necessary safety inspections, ensuring subordinates are provided with, use and maintain prescribed protective clothing as well as ensuring adherence to all policies and orders made to promote personal safety and the prevention of loss
? Ensures compliance with prescribed equipment maintenance schedules and effecting repairs where possible at shift level in order to contribute to ensuring operational readiness and reduction of damage to equipment.
? Complete of all shift related administrative routines specified in departmental policy and orders to ensure efficiency and maintenance of prescribed records/registers under the auspice of Station Commander.
? Commands one of three shifts based at a Knysna Municipality fire station, and being accountable to the Station Commander.
? Undertaking supervisory and line functional personnel-related functions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
? Senior Certificate (Grade 12)
? Accredited Hazmat Operations
? Basic Ambulance Assistant with HPCSA registration.
? Minimum 5 – 6 years' experience as a permanent member of a recognised Fire and Rescue Service
? Computer Literacy (MS Office)
? Physical attributes required for the performance of tasks associated with specific key performance areas (sound health and physical fitness).
? Willingness to participate in a practical assessment.
? Willingness to work shifts and in hazardous environments.
? Excellent written and verbal communication skills
? Willingness to work at any fire station or in any designated section of Fire & Rescue Service as determined by the Chief Fire Officer
The successful incumbent must be prepared to work shifts which will include work over weekends and public holidays. Must be available and prepared to work overtime with little or no notice should the circumstances dictate.
