About the job Senior Financial ControllerThe Senior Financial Controller will oversee the organization's day-to-day financial operations, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of financial information. This role involves maintaining precise financial records, providing insightful financial analysis and reporting, and supporting the CFO with financial planning, budgeting, and strategy. The Senior Financial Controller will also ensure compliance with financial regulations and best practices.Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Management & Control:Develop and implement strong financial policies and control processes to ensure a clean audit at the end of each financial year.Regulatory Compliance:Ensure full compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and accounting standards, including timely submissions of statutory returns (e.g., VAT, EMP201).Financial Reporting:Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements. Provide variance analysis and insights to support business decision-making.Accounting & Record Keeping:Maintain accurate and up-to-date accounting records, ensuring timely recording of financial transactions. Oversee general ledger accuracy and ensure monthly account reconciliations.Budgeting & Forecasting:Assist in preparing and managing annual budgets, forecasts, and financial projections, ensuring alignment with the company's financial strategy.Audit Coordination:Lead the coordination with internal and external auditors, providing necessary documentation and responses to ensure a timely and efficient audit process.Debtors & Creditors Management:Manage debtors and creditors, maintaining debtor days at 45 or fewer. Ensure accurate daily balances and timely matching of receipts and payments.Expenditure Control:Ensure that all approved expenditures are recorded in real time, accurately allocated, and managed within budgetary limits. Review and submit accurate payments, ensuring valid cash outflows.Balance Sheet Reconciliation:Complete monthly balance sheet reconciliations by the 20th of each month, resolving discrepancies before the following month-end.Revenue Assurance:Oversee revenue recognition processes, ensuring accurate invoicing for all products. Conduct quarterly internal audits to maintain the integrity of financial data, reporting on control issues, remediation actions, and timelines.Payroll Management:Oversee the monthly payroll process, ensuring compliance with payroll laws and regulations. Address discrepancies or compliance concerns promptly.Mentorship & Team Oversight:Provide mentorship to Finance department staff, overseeing day-to-day activities and fostering continuous professional development. Act as a liaison between the Finance and Business Units, enabling effective support for the team. Oversee stock control management with periodic interventions as necessary.QualificationsBachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting.SAICA, SAIPA, or similar qualification.Experience & SkillsMinimum of 3 years of experience in a similar financial role, preferably in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment.Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with Sage X3 or similar ERP systems is highly advantageous.Strong financial analysis skills, with attention to detail and accuracy in reporting.Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of presenting complex financial data clearly and concisely.Proven experience in mentoring and leading junior finance staff.Ability to meet strict reporting deadlines while maintaining high accuracy.Proactive, self-starter eager to build a career with a growing business.Comfortable working in a small Finance team.
