Senior Engineering Manager
Your role and responsibilities
In this role, you will have the opportunity to create, modify, and analyze the design of equipment, systems, or installations, including specifications for manufacturing, fabrication, or construction. Each day, you will optimize designs to meet updated standards and incorporate new products, components, and functionalities. You will also showcase your expertise by applying design thinking or design for excellence concepts in projects. The work model for the role is office-based and contributes to the Electrification Business in Longmeadow. You will be mainly accountable for:
Creating/reviewing complete project documentation for conformity, safety, and quality assurance.
Reviewing and adjusting design as necessary based on output of design to meet contractual obligations.
Optimizing designs to ensure compliance with updated IEC and SANS standards, incorporating new products, components, and functionalities.
Supporting technology transfers for new portfolio within the 3 product groups (PAIS, P & SGIS and S&P).
Developing improvements in processes and design based on analyzing all RCA's per quarter.
Seeking feedback from customers to drive and deliver improvement of technical solutions.
Contributing to preparation of specific aspects of design assignments to meet contractual obligations while adhering to relevant standards, safety, and quality.
Applying advanced design thinking/design for excellence concepts in projects.
Performing project peer-reviews utilizing checklists to perform design verification according to applicable standards and engineering guidelines.
Actively contributing and sharing experiences in workshops pertaining to engineering design, tools, and processes.
Creating/reviewing standard processes and tools to promote the reuse of technical solutions innovation and productivity in the team.
Ensuring design tools (EPLAN P8) usage to promote innovation and productivity.
Conducting and completing RCA reports on electrical design issues or customer CCRP's.
Assessing and addressing technical risk and opportunities with Tendering and PM.
Reporting and conducting safety/quality/program/cost issues to Project Manager along with recommendations for resolution.
Ensuring Bill of Material (BOM) for the project meets contractual obligations and project gross margin requirements.
Identifying and implementing variation requests to support contract claims based on the approval from Project Manager.
Creating work plans and cost estimates for the portfolio of projects in consultation with respective project managers and ensuring quality deliverables on time at target cost.
Preparing RFQ's to meet contractual requirements and providing technical evaluation of supplier proposals.
Coordinating with Manufacturing and Testing function to ensure the designs are appropriately manufactured/staged and tested.
Ensuring the engineering deliverables as built are updated.
Coordinating with Commissioning/Service functions to ensure the designs are appropriately installed and commissioned (if applicable as part of the contract).

Qualifications for the role
Must have a Degree in Electrical Engineering Heavy current.
Switchgear design background.
Strong E-Plan background, strong technical ability, and engineering principles.
ECSA registered will be advantageous.
SAP knowledge, create accurate BOM's.
Preference will be given to employment equity candidates.
