He/she must ensure cost-effective purchasing strategies while maintaining high standards for quality, safety, and compliance.This role requires a deep understanding of technical procurement, vendor management, and a strong background in sourcing specialized equipment and materials for engineering and/or mining projects.Duties and Responsibilities:Sourcing & Procurement:Identify and evaluate potential suppliers of materials and equipment essential for production.Negotiate contracts and purchase agreements to secure the best terms and conditions.Monitor supplier performance and resolve any issues related to quality, delivery, or compliance.Comply with procurement processes as prescribed in the buying procedure within the stipulated turnaround time.Identify and select suppliers for purchases, based on category strategy and analysis of quotes.Identifying repeat goods or services to be placed on contract.Expediting of products to prevent any stoppages.Collaborating with end users to identify needs and required outcomes.Respond to supplier inquiries about order status, changes, or cancellations.Ensuring supplier adherence and awareness of safety procedures and standards.Liaising with end users (Engineering and Production) regarding status of deliveries and delays.Technical Evaluation:Analyse technical specifications and requirements for materials and equipment to ensure they meet plant needs.Collaborate with engineering and production teams to understand and address technical needs.Assess the technical capabilities of suppliers and products through evaluations and audits.Cost Management:Conduct cost analysis and market research to identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality.Develop and implement cost-effective purchasing strategies and processes.Identifying opportunities procurement savings and benefits.Achievement of Procurement savings/benefit.Compliance & Quality Assurance:Ensure that all purchased materials and equipment meet industry standards and regulatory requirements.Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, standards, and technological advancements.Administrative Duties:Maintain accurate records of purchase orders, contracts, and supplier information.Prepare reports on procurement activities, cost analysis, and supplier performance.Evaluating and identifying opportunities for promoting BEE statistics in accordance with BBBEE and the Mining Charter.Requirements:Grade 12 CertificateNational diploma in Purchasing, tertiary qualification in Purchasing Management or equivalent.Minimum 3 years' experience in buying within a mining environment.Proven experience with sourcing and negotiating technical materials and equipment.Attributes and Competencies:Strong technical knowledge of technical equipment.Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.Proficiency in procurement software and Microsoft Office Suite.Ability to analyse technical data and make informed decisions.Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities.Process driven.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Proactive and adaptable in a fast-paced environment.
