Senior Bookkeeper/Accountant

About the Role
This is a senior-level position that involves managing all accounting operations, from transactional level to reporting, based on accounting principles. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that accounts are finalized monthly, analyzing expenses and GL accounts, and reconciling accounts payable and receivable.
Key Responsibilities
Manage all accounting operations from transactional level to reporting based on accounting principles
Ensure that accounts are finalized monthly up to Trial Balance level and analyze all relevant expenses and GL accounts within deadlines
Reconcile accounts payable and receivable age analysis and clean up any discrepancies
Reconcile stock recon monthly to the General ledger and process stock adjustments or write-offs as signed off
Balance sheet recons and overview of monthly expenses against budget to ensure variances can be explained
Support and conduct month-end and year-end close process
Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting accuracy on allocation and postings
Keep information confidential and secure
Liaise with auditors during the financial year-end audit
Assist with key financial and systems projects
Responsible for preparing and submitting VAT reconciliations and following up on any SARS VAT audits
Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements relating to financial control, financial management, and accounting
Ensure that all balance sheet reconciliations are produced on an accurate and timely basis to include bank reconciliations, debtors, creditors, and inter-company accounts
Intercompany accounts reconciliation and offsets on a monthly basis
Ensure implementation and adherence to finance policies, procedures, and systems across all teams
Forecast cash flow positions on a monthly basis based on expected in and out flows
Use planning and required actions to mitigate financial risks related to the financial requirements of the companies and the companies' cash resources
Develop annual budgets in collaboration with the Managing Directors of each operation
Report to management on variances from the established budget and the reasons for those variances post review from the CFO
Engage in ongoing cost reduction analyses in all areas of the company
Create additional analyses and reports as requested by management
Requirements
Solid experience as a Senior Bookkeeper/Accountant
Preference of a Degree or Senior certificate/diploma in Accounting
Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
Excellent accounting software user and administration skills
Ability to work independently
Ability to think strategically
Strong client-facing and communication skills
Advanced troubleshooting and multi-tasking skills
Proficiency in English
Proficiency in Sage Evolution and MS Office
Customer service orientation and negotiation skills
High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
