Job descriptionTo perform reviews and assessments, as assigned, based on an in-depth understanding of established legal, regulatory and organisational documents and processes and guides, in the area of Radiation Protection, Nuclear Waste Management, Decommissioning, Emergency Preparedness and Response and Transport Safety.Minimum Requirements:NQF level 8 (Honours) in Natural Science or Engineering (Chemical or Nuclear)Minimum of 6 years regulatory and/or professional industry experienceExperience within the nuclear industry (advantageous)Knowledge and experience related to:Understanding of the relevant legislation governing the nuclear regulation industry in South AfricaKnowledge of the principles of and requirements for nuclear safety in Radiation Protection, Nuclear Waste Management, Decommissioning, Emergency Preparedness and Response and Transport Safety for nuclear power plantsWorking knowledge of the current licensing bases (SAR, KSSR, OTS etc.) at a nuclear power plantDuties and ResponsibilitiesBased on in-depth comprehension of established legal, regulatory and organisational documents, processes and guides required for assessment and review of technical submissionsConduct assessments as assignedHandle both simple and complex systems assessmentsProvide input into the development of regulatory standards, practices and guidesParticipate in national and international forumsRepresent organisation in meetings with external stakeholdersCreate input into the development of regulatory standards, practices and guidesParticipate in other NNR work outside departmental as required e.g emergency exercise etcMentoring of employees and internsDeputise for the manager on requestPerformance of audits and inspectionsSkills and CompetenciesGood Communication skills (both verbal and written)TeamworkSelf-managementProven leadership skillsHandle both simple and complex systems as assessmentsCapability to participate in complex negotiationsAbility to work in a demanding regulatory environmentPreference will be given to candidates of designated group in line with the NNR Employment Equity targets
