Stellenbosch University Finance Division Financial Planning and Budgeting Division Senior Accountant: Remuneration (Job Level 7) (Stellenbosch Campus) Ref. Duties: Managing the payroll towards the delivery of accurate and timeous payment of salaries and overseeing the accurate processing of all payroll transactions, including third party payments; Managing payroll inputs and calculations, including allowances, bonusses, overtime, etc.; Ensuring compliance with all payroll-related laws and regulations, including submissions to SARS (EMP501s and EMP201s); Overseeing processing of payroll changes (e.g. new hires, terminations, raises) and system upgrades; Responsible for the implementation of controls and procedures within the Department and identifying any payroll related risks; Maximising the effectiveness and efficientcy of payroll processing and procedures and controls, including the streamlining and automation process; Collaborating with other departments to ensure that transactions are properly recorded in the financial system; Managing operational employee benefit administration, including facilitating retirement fund processing; Reviewing monthly reconciliation of the various benefit and control acccounts and salary journals; Preparing monthly and annual statutory and managegement reports as required; Preparing budget scenarios for annual increases and related salary adjustments; Assisting auditors with year-end queries; Supervising and managing the payroll team. Requirements: At least a BCom degree or similar qualification (NQF 7) with accounting as subject; At least three years' appropriate work experience in a similar environment; Proven ability to lead a team; In depth knowledge of statutory and discretionary payroll deductions and PAYE calculations; Proven ability to give guidance to colleagues at senior level; A substantial accounting and financial background; The ability to respect and maintain confidentiality; Excellent computer proficiency, with advanced experience in Excel; Good written and verbal communication skills. Recommendations: Similar experience gained within a university environment; Knowledge of Oracle HRMS or a similar payroll system.
