Our client is seeking an experienced Seed Production Manager to lead and manage their seed production efforts across maize, seed maize, soybeans, and wheat crops.
Responsibilities: Oversee the planning, management, and execution of seed production across 1700 hectares of irrigated land and 700 hectares of dry land.
Develop and implement strategies for maximizing crop yield and quality.
Ensure all seed production activities meet the required industry standards and regulatory requirements.
Lead the expansion of cropping areas as part of the company's growth strategy.
Supervise and train field staff in seed production techniques, ensuring efficient operations.
Manage maize, seed maize, soybeans, and wheat production cycles, from planting to harvesting.
Monitor crop health, implement pest and disease management strategies, and ensure irrigation systems are operating effectively.
Coordinate crop rotation and soil management practices to maintain soil health and productivity.
Develop and manage the seed production budget.
Prepare detailed financial reports, including cost analysis and forecasting.
Monitor and control production costs, optimizing profitability through cost-effective farming practices.
Collaborate with the finance team to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
Oversee stores and inventory management, ensuring the availability of all necessary inputs (fertilizers, seeds, pesticides, etc.).
Manage the procurement process for equipment, seeds, and other agricultural inputs.
Monitor inventory levels and forecast future needs based on crop plans.
Utilize modern agricultural technology and IT systems to monitor crop performance and production metrics.
Leverage data-driven insights to improve seed production processes and optimize operations.
Ensure compliance with industry standards, health and safety regulations, and environmental guidelines.
Implement quality control measures throughout the production process to guarantee high-quality seed outputs.
Skills: Proficiency in agricultural technology, data analysis, and IT systems related to farming.
Strong leadership and team management skills.
Ability to oversee and mentor field staff.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Agriculture, Crop Science, or a related field.
A Master's degree would be an added advantage.
Minimum of 7 years of experience in seed production, with a strong track record in managing large-scale operations.
Would also look at Candidates that have 1-2 years experience, hard at working and looking for that next step to grow on a commercial platform Proven experience with maize, seed maize, soybeans, and wheat crops.
Experience in managing stores, inventory, and procurement processes.
Strong financial acumen, with experience in financial reporting and budgeting.
Horticultural or mechanical background would be advantageous for managing equipment and other technical aspects of the operation.
Strong understanding of irrigation systems and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues.
Experience in stores, inventory, and procurement management is highly beneficial.
Willingness to work in a rural setting and adapt to changing agricultural conditions.
