Our 97,000 employees operate a network of 2,600 offices and laboratories, working together to enable a better, safer and more interconnected world.Job DescriptionResponsibilities include:Management, planning, coordination, and operation of the Geochem Fire Assay department and sample preparation.Planning, reviewing, and monitoring capital, revenue, and expense budgeting.Maintaining appropriate shift structures and rosters to meet workload and throughput targets.Monitoring, procuring, and managing stock levels within budgetary constraints.Sample routing, workflow improvement, and resource utilization in the department.Coordinating method development and validation.Ensuring effective use of equipment and facilities, including maintenance and servicing.Supervising human resources, including training and recruitment.Keeping abreast of trends in Analytical Science.Liaising with clients and attending meetings as required.Assisting with results evaluation and validation.Reporting bowl weights weekly to the Quality Manager.Implementing and monitoring accreditation requirements as per SGS and ISO17025.Ensuring health and safety within the Geochem Fire Assay and sample prep departments.Communicating company policy changes to staff.Complying with the QHSE policy of the company.Being fully acquainted with the LIMS system.Complying with the Quality Management System (ISO17025 and SANAS).Adhering to all quality and safety requirements of the SGS management system.Perform any other reasonable tasks as assigned by the direct line manager.QualificationsEducationMatric (Grade 12) – with Mathematics and Science as subjects.B.Sc, BTech or National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry.ExperienceMinimum of 5 years' experience in a relevant field.Solid Management/Senior Supervisory experience.Experience in validating and reporting results.Strong Fire Assay technical knowledge and experience.
