Section Engineer - Mining Maintenance - Underground Maintenance Surface

The role is responsible for providing technical expertise and leadership to a skilled maintenance team at the Hoisting, Ventilation, Conveyors, Cooling and Compressed Air sections. Responsible to ensure the availability and reliability of the equipment including compliance to the Mine Health and Safety Act requirements.

Key responsibilities will include: Maintaining shafts, plant and equipment within set parameters of the Mine Health and Safety Act, maintenance plans and schedules. Implementation and continuous improvement of Reliability Centred Maintenance. Achieving Best Practice work culture in maintenance standards and procedures. Ensuring that the Palabora Safety, Health, Quality and Environmental Standards are implemented and maintained. Investigating equipment failures and carrying out root cause analyses to improve reliability. Developing and managing a five-year business plan for the section. Preparing operational and capital budgets and managing the finances within company required limits. Ensuring safe installation and proper operation, running and maintenance of all machinery, such as Winders, Conveyor belts, Shafts, Refrigeration etc. Ensuring legal compliance of equipment especially TMM, Lifting Equipment, Winders, Shafts, Fans, Electrical reticulation surface including fire suppression water circuit and all its associated surface Ensuring compliance to training requirements for the employees and contractors. Performing SHEQ audits and inspections to ensure compliance. Carrying the legal responsibility as 2.13.3.1 appointee for all hoisting activities and machinery. Overseeing Electrical, Mechanical and Instrumentation installations of the Underground Surface areas and Shafts. Accountable for the comprehensive cost control and budgetary requirements. Intrinsic Qualities: Good technical capabilities Well-developed interpersonal and people management skills Advanced computer literacy (MS Office; SAP user) Ability to be decisive under pressure. Adaptable and flexible in approach. Good leadership qualities. Comprehensive knowledge of relevant legislation. A passionate safety champion. Ability to plan, manage and control budget. Qualifications & Experience: National Diploma/B.Tech/B.Sc. Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Government Certificate of Competency Electrical or Mechanical (Mines and Works). Knowledge of RCM, Condition Monitoring and Root Cause Analysis. Knowledge of Refrigeration plants, Compressors, Koepe Winders, Conveyors and Main Ventilation fans. Minimum of five years working experience in a mining shaft maintenance environment as an Engineer.
