ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Main purpose of the role: To fully implement and the maintain the Shut Down on Demand (SDOD) programme on the Koruson 1 and 2 Cluster of projects.
Key Responsibilities: Post COD Responsibilities - Team lead for Observer Led Shutdown activities on site including management of SDOD contractor.
- Ensure compliance with SDOD guidelines, policies and standard operating procedures.
- Ensure consistency and compliance with the Biodiversity Action/ Management Plan.
- Improve on the team (observers, searchers and/or consultants) skills through identifying of training initiatives.
- Ensure SDOD and carcass searching records are accurate.
- Ensure Carcass searching reports are submitted on time.
- Undertake and supervise of carcass efficiency trials on all wind farms.
- Maintain a relationship with the bird and bat specialists.
- Ensure that observers write an internal bird identification test at least once a month.
- Update the biodiversity data on a weekly basis.
- Engaging with observers/searchers/consultants on site, taking a proactive approach to deadlines with specialists.
- Effectively monitoring the contracts on site, ensuring that the observers, searchers and/or consultants are paid, and monitoring the Contract conditions.
- Assisting in the development of biodiversity checklists and reporting templates.
- Identify the training requirements of the observers, searchers , and/or consultants to upskill them and hence improve the team's performance.
- Identify potential hazards and major incidents related to SDOD operations.
- Support Human Resources with hiring of observers, searchers and/or consultants if required.
Pre- COD Responsibilities - Assist the project manager with the compilation of RFQ documentation - Assist the project team with the adjudication of proposals of sub-contracted scope.
- Construction supervision of EPC contractors responsible for constructing vantage points and other SDOD-related infrastructure.
- Liaise with specialists to optimise the final design of the vantage points - Regular progress reporting of implementation activities related to SDOD infrastructure.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS The position reports directly into : Wind Operations Supervisor The position reports functionally into: Head of Environmental Performance QUALIFICATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS Must-have Qualifications and Certifications: Diploma in Environmental Science/Management, Nature Conservation, Geography, or related qualification.
Preferred Qualifications and Certifications: Bachelor of Science / Bachelor of Technology in Nature Conservation or Biodiversity or related qualification.
RELEVANT EXPERIENCES Must-have years of professional experiences: Minimum 5 years work experience as a site environmental or biodiversity officer, or similar position.
Must-have years of industry experiences: Minimum 3 years working in a wind energy renewable project with some exposure to bird and other biodiversity related experience.
Field experience with environmental/ birds and/or bats monitoring preferred.
COMPETENCIES Technical competencies: - Strong interest in Biodiversity, particularly Birds and Bat.
- General understanding of South African Bird and Bat Guidelines.
- Some experience in environmental monitoring and compliance auditing.
- Good report writing ability.
- Good communication skills.
- Speaks and writes English fluently.
Good knowledge of another language is an advantage.
- Ability to work efficiently with Microsoft Office software, particularly Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- Problem solving ability.
- Site Supervision acumen.
