This individual will contribute to the development of world-leading advanced process control solutions that are deployed in the industry, both in South Africa and globally.KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS:Conduct research into advanced process control solutions, including modelling complex processes.Identify opportunities for technology development and commercialization.Play a leading role in minor and support role in major research projects and the development of products from that research.Ensure that projects are executed on time and within budget.Ensure that SHEQ procedures are strictly adhered to and that project work is executed with maximum overall technical efficiency.Actively participate and play a support role in the training, guidance and motivation of junior staff. Participate in team debates and technical decisions.Produce professional reports, papers and presentations at local and international conferences.Conceptualise, design, execute, analyse and troubleshoot with minimal oversight.Keep up-to-date at a professional level with technology and business developments that are relevant to the division's interests.QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCEEngineer: B.Eng. Chemical, Mechanical or Electrical, or B.Sc Honours in an applicable field, e.g. physics or applied mathematics. Candidates must be willing to study further towards an M.Eng/M.Sc and PhD in a field aligned with Mintek's research. An M.Sc or PhD in a field related to this post is preferred.Must be familiar with MATLAB or Python (prototyping of algorithms).2 years vocational experience following first graduation (BSc Hon/BEng).The following skills/knowledge will be advantageous:Computer programming in C, C# or VB.NET.Numerical analysis, solving differential equations.Modelling of complex systems including mechanical, chemical and/or thermodynamic aspects.COMPETENCIES:Communication and presentation skills (expected to produce journal articles and conference papers).Numerical and quantitative skills.Self-driven.Ability to multi-task.Ability to get things done.Ability to lead by example.Advanced Process Control.Process Modelling.
