MENTAL HEALTH, ALCOHOL, SUBSTANCE USE & TOBACCO RESEARCH UNIT (PRETORIA OFFICE) The South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC) strives to improve the nation's health and quality of life by funding and conducting relevant and leading health research. SCIENTIST (E) 6 months contract post The Mental Health, Alcohol, Substance Use & Tobacco Research requires a suitably qualified scientist. The candidate will generally contribute to the tobacco control research and research translation work in MASTRU. The candidate will further provide support to enable successful implementation of an on-going project: Interpersonal violence among male inmates at correctional centers in Gauteng, South Africa: Prevalence and associated factors. Specifically, they will assist with project coordination, data management and analysis, staff management, and research dissemination (including co-publishing papers in academic journals) to ensure the successful implementation of both projects.

Responsibilities: Planning and coordinating data collection Supervising field staff Monitoring progress of research activities and generating regular and ad-hoc reports as required Quality control and problem solving Assisting with data analysis and writing of research outputs Co-publishing papers in academic journals Core Requirements: Honours degree in Psychology At least 3 years' working experience in the tobacco control research field Experience in coordinating a project conducted in correctional centers At least 1 co-authored publication Advantageous: Master's degree in psychological research At least 2 years' experience in a research coordinator/project management role HPCSA registered Research Psychologist; Active Good Clinical Practice certificate Terms & Conditions: The SAMRC retains the right not to make an appointment.
