School Social Worker

The School Social Worker is a member of the Student Services Team and is primarily responsible for providing support to students, families, and teachers.


Student Support Identifying needs that impact student learning and developing appropriate interventions by conducting Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs) and writing Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
Providing individual and group sessions for students who require counseling or therapy services, particularly the administration of behavioral programs.
Providing clinical case management for students.
Using a variety of appropriate tools and techniques to evaluate progress of students by collecting, maintaining, and graphing student progress data on a weekly basis.
Providing crisis intervention when necessary.
Teacher Support Supporting teachers in the implementation of BIPs through training and modeling.
Collaborating with teachers to follow up on the implementation of BIPs through observations and meetings.
Sharing relevant data and information with teachers to support the implementation of the BIP.
Providing classroom sessions on topics related to social and emotional needs of students, including but not limited to behavioral strategies and techniques.
Developing and providing professional development workshops that educate faculty on relevant issues, such as suicide prevention training.
Service Integration and Delivery Understanding of the reciprocal influences of home, school, and community to intervene for student success.
Providing services to students in ways that build upon individual strengths and offering students opportunities to participate in their own learning experience.
Developing short and long-term intervention plans consistent with school curriculum and culture; students' needs, strengths, diversity and life experiences; and social and emotional factors.
Conducting outreach, particularly home visits, and promoting collaboration among community providers that have diverse offerings and facilitate student and family access to these services.
Working with the school leader on such issues as attendance, confidentiality, diversity, mental health, behavior management, crisis intervention and child abuse and neglect.
Providing encouragement, guidance and resources to staff and students when needed.
Serving as a member of the Student Assistance Team (SAT) and Individualized Education Program (IEP) Team as necessary.
Accountability Conforming to the National Association of Social Work (NASW) Code of Ethics and Standards for School Social Work Practice.
Maintaining accurate case records and documentation.
Maintaining current knowledge of and abiding by federal and state laws and regulations with emphasis on persons with disabilities, mental health, confidentiality, and student and parent rights.
Other Duties Serves as the Child Welfare and Attendance Coordinator by ensuring that students are attending school regularly by: investigating causes of unexcused or excessive absences, communicating with families and assisting them in problem-solving, issuing attendance-based warnings, and representing LFNO in all attendance matters Effectively communicating with school administrators, teachers, student service personnel, and parents regarding student performance and plans for improvement Participating in faculty meetings and professional learning communities meetings Attending Professional Development sessions Assisting in orientation and open houses as needed Modeling non-discriminatory practices in all activities.
Producing performance-based activities to support school initiatives Preparing students for seasonal programs, and other special events Maintaining an inventory, controlling the storage and use of department property, and overseeing the working condition of said equipment.
Performing other job related functions as may be assigned Being punctual Community-Based Learning Initiatives Assisting in the delivery of curriculum that utilizes community resources, especially those delivered in French, to enrich the learning experiences of students Job descriptions are created to provide a framework of responsibilities and are not inclusive of all duties that may be required.

We benchmark annually comparably-sized schools in our area to offer competitive salaries.

Depending on qualifications, internal equity, and the budgeted amount for this role, the salary range for this position is between $53,000 and $75,000.
The range for most candidates is $55,000 - $61,000.


Requirements

Expectations, Educational Requirements A minimum of one (1) year of prior experience working in an urban school or similar setting with at-risk students and their families Demonstrates professional integrity and a commitment to best practices for communicating with students, staff, and families Master's Degree and licensure in the field of social work Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) Preferred Qualifications School experience, interest in and experience with French culture Proficiency in French Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at LFNO
