Safety Specialist is accountable for the Safety Management for the company. They will assist the HSES Manager and the respective facility Managers with Health, Safety, and Environmental standards and mandatory regulations pertaining to the country and the company.
Establish and maintain a written HSE Policy ensuring it is communicated to all personnel along with all HSE procedures (Including inspections, JHA, audits, work permits, etc.) and monitoring the HSE compliance regulations.
Assist local management with the implementation and monitoring of the HSE program and objectives.
Evaluate HSE non-conformities related to Group documents, procedures, technical standards, or local regulations with facilities management.
Ensure HSE and Internal/External Audits are conducted properly and in a timely manner with the development of action plans.
Provide professional support and advice to the Operations Management and staff on HSE matters.
Responsible for ensuring that the company is compliant with the Safety, Health, and Environment legal framework of SA, that procedures are in place, implemented, and to support the operations at subsidiary level.
Conduct or coordinate industrial hygiene monitoring as necessary.
Coordinate HSE training programs for employees and contractors entering the site to assure they are trained and qualified to do their jobs safely.
Assist and issue an expert opinion to local management for the analyses of Safety events (PSSE, NLTA/LTA) and guarantee the quality of the analysis and reporting.
Assist with the completion of Safe Work and other Life Saving Permits.
Provide on-the-floor HSES coaching and recognition.
Regular communication on HSE topics, KPI's, initiatives, and organizational achievements.
Participate in job hazard analysis, process hazard analysis, management of change, and pre-startup safety reviews.
Assist in driving a safety ownership culture and engaging employees in managing all HSE-related matters.
Apply global best practices of safety for our industry in planning and execution of this key HSE role.

Educational requirements:
Education: Diploma/Degree in Chemical/Mechanical Engineering or Environmental/Safety Management.
Experience:
7+ years relevant experience in the Gas, Mining, or Chemical Industry.
Safety & Risks aspects experience.
Maintaining accreditations for FSSC, SAHPRA, ISO.
Knowledge and Know-how specific to the job:
Experience in Operations.
Understand Risk Management methods.
Strong knowledge of Safety Risk tools to manage high severity activities (Fall protection plans, Safe Work Permit, JHAs, etc.).
Working knowledge of South African legislation i.e., OSHAct, NEMA, and related regulations.
Working knowledge of AL Group IMS, Technical, HSE, and risk policies is an added advantage.
