Company DescriptionCome and join this dedicated team as a Safety Officer Surface, ON A 3 MONTH CONTRACT. This is a legal appointment in terms of Schedule 4 of the MHSA regulation 2/17.1 responsible for the management of the Safety and Risk Assurance Functions and the optimisation of the safety and risk control through design, implementation, evaluation, coordination and management of the safety and risk control systems, as well as for ensuring legal compliance at the Unit.Anglo American is a global diversified mining business. We use innovative practices and the latest technologies to discover new resources and mine, process, move and market our products to our customers around the world.Job DescriptionJob responsibilities include (but are not limited to):Ensure implementation of the AAP ORMPCoordinate the External SHE System Certification Audit.Plan and ensure the Implementation of operational SHE Legal Compliance Assessments.Facilitate the implementation of an operational audit schedule on critical areas to ensure the elimination of Fatal Incidents, Major Potential Incidents, and High Potential Incidents.Implement the required SHE Risk & Assurance system procedures, systems and standards.Review and analyse operational incident investigations, risk assessments and audit reports for quality control and to ensure the Hierarchy of Control is effectively applied.Formulation of key focus areas, recommendations, trend and data analysis.Monitor the performance of cost engineering systems and processes to evaluate if changes are necessary and/or effective.Review contractor SHE engagement files for compliance.Review and check contractors' qualifications and training prior to the engagement of contractors.Review and approve Supplier Basic SHE files in a capable approved computer system.Providing expert guidance and taking the responsibility for verifying compliance to SHE systems within the onboarding hub.Conducting value-adding SHE compliance inspections and audits to assess the safety and hygiene to ensure that the onboarding center complies with all applicable legislations.Following up on SHE corrective actions, including those necessary to close out.Develop, review, implement and enforce onboarding procedures.Be involved in the review of training matrix for all relevant positions.Attend project's kick-off meetings and provide guidance on onboarding requirements.Liaise with the emergency response department and coordinate emergency drills and awareness training for the onboarding center.This role is at a Band 7 level reporting to the Section Manager OnboardingQualificationsTertiary degree or diploma in Technical, Safety, Health, Environment or RiskDesirable:COMSOC I & II or SAMTRACCourses in Safety management systems ISO 45001:2018 and ISO 14001:2015 would be advantageous.Experience:5 Years relevant Mining / Process / Engineering experience which should include developing, implementing, managing and auditing of safety and risk control initiatives and programmes.SHE Incident investigation experience;Safety, Occupational Health & Hygiene, Environmental Management experiencePresentation / facilitation / Training.Additional InformationWhat we offerWhen you join Anglo American you can expect to enjoy a competitive salary and benefits package, but more than this, you'll find yourself in an environment where the opportunities for learning and growth are second to none.Who we areAnglo American is a global diversified mining business.
