Reporting to ESG, Risk and Compliance Manager. Main Purpose of Job:To implement, co-ordinate and maintain the efforts of the business in adhering to the legal compliance in the areas of Occupational Health and Safety, Fire Defence, Security, Environmental Control, Emergency Preparedness, Training, Liability in terms of OHS Act and Risk Management. Main Responsibilities:Assist in developing, implementing and maintaining a SHE systemFollow all the instructions given by the ESG, Risk and Compliance ManagerAttend to SHE related functions and ensure job tasks are completed timeouslyAssist the ESG, Risk and Compliance Manager to drive the safety, health, environmental and risk management strategy for our client's operationsWork with the ESG, Risk and Compliance Manager to identify key organization-wide trends, shifts, issues relating to SHE. That impact on strategy, implementation of SHE procedures, policies and ensure that effective SHE plans are in place to address risk registerConduct induction training for all staff and contractors annually, and for all new employeesKeep records of all SHE related records for audit purposes. To this effect, maintain a filing system for efficient retrieval of recordsEnsure that all fire safety checks, and related records are maintained, take corrective action to obtain the records working with other departmentsConduct Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) inspections as directed by the ESG, Risk and Compliance Manager and submit reports in timelines givenActively organize group SHE activities e.g. toolbox talks, green area meetingsCoordinate all Health and Safety (H&S) committee meetings, maintain minutes of meetings and ensure that outstanding actions are completed. Follow up on actions stemming from SHE committee meetingsDrive the culture of safety ownership at all levels of the organization with a strong emphasis on behaviour-based safetyIdentify areas of risk and assist ESG, Risk and Compliance Manager in developing measures to eliminate, reduce and control themFacilitate and ensure that staff and contractors comply with relevant legislation, regulations and standardsInspect and evaluate the environment, equipment and processes in working areas to ensure compliance with government safety regulations, industry standards and company standardsProvide advice to the ESG, Risk and Compliance Manager with safety related matters, where necessaryEnsure prompt reporting, investigation and remedial action of OHS incidents, including (injury on duty) IODsCoordinating and maintaining the establishment and training of emergency teams e.g. fire marshals, first aiders, fire fightersIdentify risks and correct any hazardsAssist with audits and ensure corrective actions are taken in the event of non-complianceAssist with Initiating projects to deal with unsafe working practicesEnsure contractor compliance with company rules and regulationsArrange for quotes, purchase, and control the distribution of PPE to relevant departmentsMake arrangements to ensure that fire drills and emergency drills regularly take place and report and performanceAssist with developing and implementing fire defence procedures for the business/siteAssist ESG, Risk and Compliance Manager in arranging Approved Inspection Authority (AIA) surveys, external audits, including testing of water, effluent and other diagnostics related to OHS Authority: Decisions without supervisor/manager's approvalProvide advice on SHE related risks and mitigation to ESG, Risk and Compliance ManagerTake constructive action toward risk mitigation proactively and maintain the OHS risk registerTake swift action toward risk mitigation in reaction to risks that have materialised, and update the risk register accordinglyConduct OHS inspection using checklists, and reporting results to SHE managerTake corrective action to mitigate OHS risksRecommendations to supervisor/managerNew SHE related methodologies and training opportunitiesSuggesting changes to the SHE system where previously agreed on risk mitigation steps are affected, including procedures and checklists to be updated Requirements: Relevant tertiary qualification, i.e., SAMTRAC, Safety Management National Diploma, NEBOSH, or equivalentComputer Literacy (Microsoft – Outlook, Excel, Word)Good working knowledge of SHE related legislation.Good working understanding of implementing SHE related processes and systems.Hazard analysis and incident investigationGathering and interpreting of data and effective reportingWillingness to learnGood communication, conflict resolution, working well under pressure, attention to detail, impartial
