Minimum requirements for the role: Must have a Bachelors degree or equivalent in Mechanical, Electrical, or Environmental Engineering Must possess a tertiary qualification in Safety and Environment Management as well as Auditing Must hold a Government Certificate of Competence or equivalent certification for responsible safety and environment personnel Minimum 5 years experience in a FMCG environment with experience in safety and environmental management Strong knowledge of relevant safety and environmental legislation is essential Proven ability to lead and implement safety programs Excellent analytical skills for monitoring KPIs and developing improvement strategies is essential Must have communication and training skills for diverse operational teams The successful candidate will be responsible for: Maintaining a safe, healthy, and risk-free workplace.
Ensuring compliance with safety, health, and environmental legislation and standards.
Leading the implementation of the VPO (Voyage Plan Organization) Standards for environment and safety pillars.
Performing regular audits, reviews, and monitoring for VPO Safety and Environmental standards.
Capturing, reporting, and escalating incidents and observations in Credit360 or equivalent system.
Implementing problem-solving processes to ensure effective resolution and closure of safety and environmental incidents.
Performing loss and waste analysis on incidents, developing action plans for priority issues.
Conducting OPR (Operational Performance Review) sessions to identify development needs.
Ensuring a positive industrial relations climate.
Managing a technical talent pipeline for safety and environment roles within the team.
Leading the implementation of the Behavioral Safety Program across all levels.
Organizing safety and environmental awareness events, including World Safety and Environment Day/Week.
Ensuring mandatory safety and environment training for all employees, contractors, and service providers.
Overseeing small-scale safety and environment site capital expenditure (CAPEX) projects.
Ensuring compliance with safety and environmental requirements for all new equipment during commissioning.
Managing departmental costs and budget for Zero-Based Budgeting (ZBB) and CAPEX.
Maximizing by-product revenue from safety and environmental initiatives.
Developing and standardizing emergency and disaster recovery plans for the plant.
Implementing process safety management programs (e.g., ammonia, steam, dust, electrical).
