Rock Engineer Company : Glencore Coal SA Location : Witbank, Mpumalanga, South Africa Department : Group Services Job ID : GRS MM 2025/03 Closing Date : 15 January 2025 Role Overview The Rock Engineer will proactively identify and address potential geological risks, ensuring the safety of personnel and equipment.
This includes recommending appropriate operational methods, implementing effective rock engineering practices, and ensuring compliance with Health and Safety standards.
Key Responsibilities Compliance & Governance : Ensure adherence to Rock Engineering governance standards and practices.
Technology & Innovation : Recommend and evaluate new rock mechanics technologies and systems, assessing their feasibility.
Health & Safety : Implement safety targets related to strata control and monitor their progress.
Training & Awareness : Train stakeholders to ensure thorough understanding and application of strata control principles.
Stakeholder Engagement : Maintain effective communication channels by conducting regular meetings with stakeholders.
Incident Investigation : Manage and investigate Fall of Ground incidents and implement preventive measures.
System Implementation : Maintain the Health and Safety Management System, ensuring compliance with HSE policies and procedures.
Requirements Minimum Qualifications Relevant degree in a related field.
Chamber of Mines Rock Mechanics Certificate (Coal/Hard Rock).
Opencast Blasting Certificate (advantageous).
Minimum Experience At least 5 years of experience as a Strata Control Officer.
