Minimum requirements:NEBOSH / SAMTRAC / Diploma or degree in OHS FieldRegistered with South African Institute of Occupational Safety and HealthRegistered with South African Council for the Project and Construction Management ProfessionsEmergency medical experience - Registered with the Health Professional Council of SA would be advantageousAdvance first aid experienceAdvance firefighting knowledgeOHS ACT Qualification5 Years relevant working experience within a FMCG Environment/Factory Setup recommendedComputer literacyRequired skills/knowledge and attributesKnowledge and understanding of the OHSA & Regulations, NFPA 36, SANS 10400 (Fire Extinguishers), SANS 10139 (Fire Detection)Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skillsStrong administration, organization and problem-solving skillsGood interpersonal, negotiation and networking skillsGood understanding of relevant legislationUnderstanding of management principles and ability to design and implement systemsAbility to understand and deal with diverse culturesAbility to understand Safety cultureProven ability to manage health & safety, medical and security requirementsGood Emotional Intellect: Skilled in identifying, assessing, and managing the emotions of oneself, of others, and of groupsEnergy and perseveranceRole and responsibilities:Maintaining the Health and Safety Management Systems for all sitesFacilitating and performing Health, Safety and Environmental risk identification assessments, evaluation & development of safe work procedures with department managersFacilitating and reviewing investigation and recording of all accidents / incidents / near misses and ensure accurate reporting and mitigating measures are implementedEnsure that Safety Committee Meetings are held regularly as per OHSA requirements for all plants / SitesEnsure that Health & Safety Representatives conduct monthly inspections and submit required reports for feedback to managementEnsure that external contractors adhere to the Construction Regulation requirements as well as any company specific specificationsAudit all Contractors as per audit schedule, construction contractors every 30 days.Ensure for the continuous Health & Safety training of all employees for all plants and sites on topics pertaining to safe work procedures and practicesResponsible for the effective management of all plants and sites security and external security service providers in order to comply with security requirements set out as well as Food Safety requirements (Threat Assessment and Critical Control Points / Food Safety System Certification)Responsible to manage and maintain the onsite medical clinic and facility, equipment and medical consumable stock, including calibration of alcohol breathalyzer, all clinic equipment and health and safety department equipmentResponsible to ensure that all staff pre-employment, annual / periodical and exit medicals are carried out for compliance with OHSA and food safety requirementsResponsible for all staff medical records and the safekeeping thereof in the onsite clinicHandling all Department of Employment and Labour related visits and reportingEnsure that all plants and sites fire detection and fire suppression systems, including fire extinguishers, hose reels and fire hydrants are functional, compliant and certified as per SANS requirementsEnsure that all plants and sites steam generators, pressure vessels, forklifts, lifting gear and mobile cranes are compliant and certified as per respective requirements of the OHSA RegulationsResponsible to report back to management to on deviations identified and required actions to be taken on all plant areasEnsure that Health and Safety Reports and plant statistics are submitted to management / business analysis department on a regular basis for statistical recordsResponsible to ensure that all construction and installation processes of systems and new projects adhere to Health & Safety and Environmental standards, during and after the completion of projectsEnsure management is up to date with current legislative requirements, provide guidance on compliance and system implementationResponsible for all plants Site Safety induction programs for all employees, contractors and visitorsHealth and SafetyParticipate in safety forums created for example safety meetings and safety talksFollow-up on any activities assigned through safety meetings / committees / representatives managementReport all safety incidents to the relevant peopleAttend safety education and refresher programmesComply with safety policies and procedures Distribute safety information as and when requiredWear protective clothing (where applicable) at all timesEmployee management and developmentEnsure overall compliance to relevant procedures and policiesEnsure that all team members have clearly defined job profilesRegular goal review completed to assess achievement of resultsSupport, coaching and mentoring is continuously provided to ensure that objectives are metEnsure that development plans are in place for each employeeAppropriate allocation of resources to meet operational demandsEnsure that events/activities taking place in the team are effectively communicated within the teamEnsure adequate succession planning in order to meet ongoing and anticipated business requirements
