The Sanlam Life and Savings Office provides strategic direction, coordination and support to the three clusters, as well as performing governance oversight that includes assurance provided by second line of defense functions in SLS, to enable us to meet our business objectives.Sanlam Life and Savings (SLS) offers retail and corporate life insurance and investment products in South Africa.

It further aims to converge a single ecosystem that incorporates financial guidance, rewards, non-intermediated product offerings and seamless payment capabilities to deliver the integrated digital experience that today's client expects.SLS: Risk Management forms part of the SLS: Actuarial department and provides risk and balance sheet management services to both SLS and SFT.The focus areas of the SLS: Risk Management team are to:Deliver efficient risk reporting and risk management solutions across SLS and SFT.Provide projections, stresses, sensitivities, and other risk management information to optimise and strengthen the strategies, balance sheets and income streams.Understand and optimise the drivers of profit streams within the clusters.Perform dedicated balance sheet management by actively identifying opportunities, assessing viability, and driving implementation.Embed the ORSA in the strategic & risk management of SLS and SFT.What will you do?Role Description and Core Tasks:The role entails 2nd line risk management, which includes delivering efficient risk reporting and risk management solutions and business continuity co-ordination across SLS and SFT.Core tasks include:Helping the SLS & SFT clusters and businesses consider and mitigate risks that could negatively impact the business units and the achievement of their strategic goals.Evaluate, report, and provide input into the appropriateness of management response to risk exposures, and the likely effectiveness of these mitigation actions and strategies.Identifying and communicating possible upside of risks (i.e.
never let good crises go to waste).Strengthening the risk management culture in the clusters and businesses.Align, support, and implement operational risk processes.Provide input to the SLS and SFT Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Policy Framework and related policies & governance documents.Assist management with implementation and adherence to the ERM framework.Monitor, identify and communicate emerging risks, and consider the adequacy of existing controls in relation to these.Facilitate the application of the ERM software solution (CURA) across the SLS and SFT Clusters.Facilitate the roll out and application of the BCM software solution (Morgan Solus Toolkit) across the SLS and SFT Clusters.Participate and/or execute on ad hoc risk management initiatives/projects.What will make you successful in this role?Requirements:Qualifications:Relevant Tertiary Qualification (B. Com / Certified (or progressing towards certification) Risk Management Practitioner / at least 5 years' experience in Operational Risk Management in the financial services industry.Experience:Sound knowledge and experience in governance, risk management and control principles.Experience in a similar capacity within the financial services industry would be an advantage.Experience in Business Continuity Management (BCM) will be considered favorably.Exposure to Enterprise Risk Management Software would be an advantage.Business acumen and organisational awareness.Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships at various levels of the organisation.Client focused and results and timeline driven.Strong communication (verbal and written - English business language) and collaboration skills.Analytical thinking and problem solving.Ability to influence risk-related decision-making.Flexible, and Adaptable to change.Proficiency in MS Office (MS Word & MS Excel).Knowledge and SkillsData CollectionBusiness ProcessesReporting and AdministrationQuality, compliance and accreditationPersonal AttributesOrganisational savvy - Contributing through othersManages complexity - Contributing through othersPlans and aligns - Contributing through othersOptimises work processes - Contributing through othersBuild a successful career with usWe're all about building strong, lasting relationships with our employees.
