Qualification and Experience
Requirements:
NEBOSH / SAMTRAC / Diploma or degree in OHS Field
OHS ACT Qualification
Registered with South African Institute of Occupational Safety and Health
Registered with South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Professions
5 Years relevant working experience within a FMCG Environment/Factory Setup (recommended)
Emergency medical experience - Registered with the Health Professional Council of SA (advantageous)
Advance first aid experience
Advance firefighting knowledge
Key Performance Areas
Maintain the Health and Safety Management Systems for all sites
Facilitate and perform Health, Safety and Environmental risk identification assessments, evaluation & development of safe work procedures with department managers
Facilitate and review investigation and recording of all accidents / incidents / near misses and ensure accurate reporting and mitigating measures are implemented
Ensure that Safety Committee Meetings are held regularly as per OHSA requirements for all Sites
Ensure that Health & Safety Representatives conduct monthly inspections and submit required reports for feedback to management
Ensure that external contractors adhere to the Construction Regulation requirements as well as any company-specific specifications
Audit all Contractors as per audit schedule, construction contractors every 30 days
Ensure continuous Health & Safety training of all employees for all plants and sites on topics pertaining to safe work procedures and practices
Responsible for the effective management of all plants and sites security and external security service providers in order to comply with security requirements set out as well as Food Safety requirements (Threat Assessment and Critical Control Points / Food Safety System Certification)
Responsible to manage and maintain the onsite medical clinic and facility, equipment and medical consumable stock, including calibration of alcohol breathalyzer, all clinic equipment and health and safety department equipment
Responsible to ensure that all staff pre-employment, annual / periodical and exit medicals are carried out for compliance with OHSA and food safety requirements
Responsible for all staff medical records and the safekeeping thereof in the onsite clinic
Handling all Department of Employment and Labour related visits and reporting
Ensure that all plants and sites fire detection and fire suppression systems, including fire extinguishers, hose reels and fire hydrants are functional, compliant and certified as per SANS requirements
Ensure that all plants and sites steam generators, pressure vessels, forklifts, lifting gear and mobile cranes are compliant and certified as per respective requirements of the OHSA Regulations
Responsible to report back to management on deviations identified and required actions to be taken on all plant areas
Ensure that Health and Safety Reports and plant statistics are submitted to management / business analysis department on a regular basis for statistical records
Responsible to ensure that all construction and installation processes of systems and new projects adhere to Health & Safety and Environmental standards, during and after the completion of projects
Ensure management is up to date with current legislative requirements, provide guidance on compliance and system implementation
Responsible for all plants Site Safety induction programs for all employees, contractors and visitors
Participate in safety forums created by the company for example safety meetings and safety talks
Follow-up on any activities assigned through safety meetings / committees / representatives / management
