In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Centurion, Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.Job DescriptionAs a Rigger, you will provide services as required and your responsibilities will include:Safety, Health, and EnvironmentAdhere to all health and safety practices and requirements.Promote good housekeeping to ensure compliance and an environment where team members can deliver their outputs within a controlled risk environment.Exemplify all relevant safety standards and procedures as a positive example for learners to follow and prioritise in their work practices.Active participation in SLAMs, HPHs, relevant Risk Assessments and close-out of Safety Actions.Performance and DeliveryInterpret engineering drawings and load charts to determine the appropriate equipment and rigging methods.Select the proper slings, cables, chains, and other rigging equipment based on the load and the lifting method.Install and assemble the equipment for lifting operations, including attaching or dismantling slings or other lifting devices to the load and securing them properly.Use hand signals or communication devices to convey instructions to crane operators during lifting operations, ensuring precise and safe manoeuvres.Ensure loads are stable and balanced adequately during lifting, including securing loads with appropriate rigging configurations to prevent shifting or falling.Ensure proper communication and handover of outstanding tasks between shifts and day-shift teams.Equipment MaintenanceEnsure all equipment is serviced and maintained using the appropriate methods to achieve optimal functionality within the section and maintain cost-effectiveness.Ensure work is executed as per Operating Model standards and procedures.Ensure job cards are completed in full and returned on time.Ensure all toolboxes and tools are kept in good condition.Stakeholder Relationship ManagementConduct all authorised rigging with minimum disruption to workflow and operations of others and without damaging nearby equipment.Demarcate the rigging area as a safety measure and ensure the team and nearby workers are aware of operations for their safety.Inform key role players of the operation, conduct the slinging process with limited disruption to workflow, and prevent equipment damage to minimise downtime.Suspension Rope Head ManufacturingWhere required, oversee the manufacturing of suspension ropes for shovels and lifts using correct rope types and manufacturing methodologies to ensure adherence to safety standards, including lifting profiles.Inspect all manufactured ropes before use to ensure standards are met and allow for remedial and corrective actions where necessary.This role is in the Engineering (ENG) department on a band J4 level reporting to the Mechanical Engineering Supervisor.QualificationsGrade 12/ N3 TechnicalOccupational Read Seal Trade Certificate as RiggerSA Drivers LicenceTechnical KnowledgeUnderstanding of operational practices and principles gained through 2 years of experience as a Rigger.Knowledge of Rigging Procedures, Equipment, and sign language.Familiarity with Sling manufacturing methodologies and techniques.Insight into Suspension rope heads manufacturing methodologies and techniques.Understanding of Component shifting processes.Awareness of Safety standards.Knowledge of Company Policies and Procedures.Familiarity with Lock-out procedures.Additional InformationWho We AreWe aim to lead the industry by pursuing ever safer and more responsible ways of working, demonstrating integrity and showing care and respect for people and the planet.
