RESEARCH TECHNOLOGIST: RESEARCH ASSISTANT Duration: One-Year Contract The South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC) is seeking to appoint a Research Assistant to enable a Tuberculosis study to be conducted at Prince Mshiyeni Memorial Hospital. This will entail recruiting and enrolling study participants, extracting data from clinical notes and capturing these into RedCap. The research assistant will also oversee the adherence component of the study, which includes providing information on 'Wisepill' an electronic adherence monitoring device to participants, showing them how it works and stocking it with medication monthly. During these monthly visits, a depression screening tool will also be administered.
Responsibilities: Management of the research site at Prince Mshiyeni Memorial Hospital (PMMH) which will include:Regular liaison with staff at the drug-resistant TB clinic at PMMHRecruitment and enrolment of study participantsExtraction of data from clinical notes and capturing it into RedCap, ensuring data is collected, cleaned, organized and stored according to SAMRC ethical principlesAdministration of depression screening toolsManagement of electronic data collection tools and processesSubmission of weekly reports to study teamCore Requirements: Matric with 1-2 Years accredited course/certification5 years experience of working in TB/HIV studies2 – 3 years experience in research/project managementExperience with conducting screening, obtaining consent/assent and quantitative data collectionExperience in liaising with health care workers from Department of HealthExperience in data capturingFluent in isiZulu and EnglishDrivers license and willing to drive to Prince Mshiyeni Memorial HospitalAdvantageous: Effective organisational skills and the ability to work both independently and in a teamAbility to multitask and work under pressureTerms & Conditions: The SAMRC retains the right not to make an appointment.
