The Health Systems and Policy Analyst will join our Climate Change and Health research team.

The incumbent should have experience in policy analysis specifically as it relates to the health system. Prior experience in climate and health will be an added advantage but not essential.

This will be a joint appointment between the Africa Health Research Institute (AHRI) based in KwaZulu-Natal and the Aurum Institute based in Johannesburg.

At AHRI, the incumbent will be based within the Population Science department and will work closely with other investigators under the guidance of the principal investigator(s).

Current climate and health projects include the "Adaptations to strengthen healthcare delivery and resilience to extreme weather events in Southern Africa" (ASTRA) team funded by the NIHR and another investigating the impact of extreme weather events on mental health funded by the Wellcome Trust. These multi-country projects aim to generate evidence to catalyse policy shifts that limit the impact of climate change on health. They will be expected to contribute to the development of junior staff members and the strategic progress of the climate and health programme.Overview of Duties: Overview of Duties Conduct research on healthcare systems and policies at local, national and international levels;
Analyse data and trends to identify opportunities for improvement in healthcare delivery and outcomes and report to the project team;
Monitor and evaluate health system reforms and policy initiatives across the three countries;
Conduct research and develop reports for publication on healthcare policy topics;
Interpret legislation related to healthcare policy across the project;
Advise the project on healthcare policy issues;
Assist in the development of healthcare policy proposals;
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on policies and interventions;
Prepare reports, briefs, and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to diverse audiences;
Continuously keep the project updated about all the above
Be willing to travel
Minimum Qualifications PhD in Public Health with a health policy specialisation, or Health Policy, or Health Economics, or any other related field
Minimum Experience A minimum of 5 years' experience in health system research, policy analysis, or related roles.
Strong analytical skills and proficiency in conducting and analysing both qualitative and quantitative research.
Experience working in low and middle-income countries such as in the project.
Experience analysing data and health policies
Skills Required Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English;
Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team, flexible and a good team player
Good problem-solving skills
Well organised and able to plan effectively and efficiently
