Description: The Political Science Department at the University of Toronto invites applications for a Research Associate (Limited Term) for a 6-month, 25% appointment with the possibility of renewal. The anticipated start date is June 2024.
The Research Associate is intrinsically involved in the research project where they contribute, by way of their academic expertise, to the project as directed by the principal investigator. 
The Research Associate will apply their academic expertise and subject matter knowledge to contribute to and inform the following on the Elite Africa Project: 
funding applications  conference paper and article presentations relationship building The goal of the Elite Africa Project is to shift and broaden dominant intellectual approaches to the study of elites in Africa. This is being pursued through three key objectives:
A quantitative and qualitative analysis that tracks the growth in the number and variety of elites and elite institutions in Africa post-independence.  The development of a coherent causal account of these trends; and The consideration of what this tells us about power and what it implies for the study of Africa. This project is fundamentally rooted in the discipline of Political Science but will draw on the work of historians, as well as those working in the fields of art and literature, musicology, religion, business, and the military.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: PhD in Political Science or African Studies or comparable discipline with extensive experience of at least 6 or more years of project development, extensive field research, working with and researching institutions in Africa, and successful conference and funding applications. 
Additional skills required include project management, leadership and interpersonal skills to assist in the guidance and implementation of the research project that is comprised of a multi-disciplinary and international team of scholars.
