Its mission is to educate students, prepare professionals, and cultivate scholars who will play a leading role in creating more culturally engaged, ecologically sustainable, socially just, and artfully conceived environments.Your opportunity:The Research Assistant - Invasive Species Phragmites will assist with the research on the biological control of introduced Phragmites (Phragmites australis ssp. australis). The successful candidate will have the opportunity to undertake field work and support a team of research associates, scientists, and land managers working to implement Phragmites biological control across southern Ontario.Your responsibilities will include:Following rules and procedural instructions when administering research studiesRecording and tabulating experiment resultsProviding some care to prevent physical or emotional injury or harmProviding orientation to others on work procedures and practicesEssential Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.One (1) year of experience supporting research by organizing materials and recording experiment resultsExperience assisting research in entomology/ecology/invasion scienceExperience following rules and procedural instructions when administering research studiesExperience providing orientation to others on work procedures and practicesExperience providing some care to prevent physical or emotional injury or harmExperience generating reports and coding quantitative dataProficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and OutlookExcellent verbal and written communication skillsAbility to manage multiple priorities and occasional competing deadlinesProven ability to deal with people in a tactful and effective mannerExcellent organizational and time management skillsAbility to work occasional weekends for field work and insect/plant rearingAssets (Nonessential):Experience with the biology and ecology of invasive plants of Ontario, specifically common reed, Phragmites australis ssp. australisTo be successful in this role you will be:Multi-taskerOrganizedProceduralResourcefulTeam playerClosing Date: 01/10/2025, 11:59 PM ETEmployee Group: USWAppointment Type: Grant - TermSchedule: Full-TimePay Scale Group & Hiring Zone: USW Pay Band 05 -- $52,481. with an annual step progression to a maximum of $67,115.Note: TERM position - 2 YearsLived Experience StatementCandidates who are members of Indigenous, Black, racialized and 2SLGBTQ+ communities, persons with disabilities, and other equity deserving groups are encouraged to apply, and their lived experience shall be taken into consideration as applicable to the posted position.All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority.Diversity StatementThe University of Toronto embraces Diversity and is building a culture of belonging that increases our capacity to effectively address and serve the interests of our global community.
