RESEARCH ASSISTANT
(Full-time position, One-year Contract)
The Mental Health, Alcohol, Substance Use and Tobacco Drug Research Unit is looking for one experienced, energetic and organized research assistant to work on the PEGISUS study (Peer Education for Gender Inclusion and Substance Use in Southern Africa), a pilot randomized controlled trial working with adolescents and young people who use substances, and their peers, to provide them with interventions placed within vocational training programmes. The successful candidate will be responsible for marketing, outreach, screening and recruiting participants as necessary, consenting participants, tracking and retaining participants in the study as well as administrative tasks and skills training as required. The successful candidate will be based between the MASTRU Delft site and an office based in Capricorn Park and will be expected to work within a number of surrounding communities on a daily basis.
Anticipated start date for appointment is the 1st of January 2025
Responsibilities:
Input into protocol development as needed
Assistance with training of vocational training staff members
Data collection and data entry tasks
Assisting project coordinator with administrative tasks as needed
Data quality assurance
Screening, recruitment and enrolment of participants
Tracking, transporting and retaining participants in the study for all study appointments
GCP training and adhering to ethical guidelines
Core Requirements:
Matric with one to two year accredited course in Social Sciences/Public Health field
Three years experience as a fieldworker with adolescents/young people
Advantageous:
Diploma/certificate advantageous
Previous experience with interventions for substance use with adolescents/young people

A salary in the region of R 293 027 per annum, cost-to-company, will be negotiated in consideration of experience and qualifications.
