The Project Engineer is the primary resource responsible to provide sound technical input during different phases of the project from project development to project construction and operations. During construction, the Project Engineer is responsible for ensuring that the project is executed in accordance with Company's health and safety, quality and design requirements. The Project Engineer will carry out site inspections during manufacturing, construction and commissioning in order to ensure these activities are performed in accordance to the design and methods described in the method statements, risk assessments and procedures.
Key Accountabilities: Design Review and Compliance Monitoring Key Activities Reviews, recommends changes (where required) and approves facility designs, technical specifications, technical studies and risk assessments and method statements to ensure compliance with required design standards, legal compliance and environmental, health and safety requirementsCompletes engineering projects by organizing and controlling project elementsDevelops project objectives by reviewing project proposals and plans and conferring with managementDetermines project specifications by studying product design, customer requirements and performance standardsReviews technical studies and prepares cost estimatesConfirms product performance by designing and overseeing of tests and evaluation of test outcomesDetermines and evaluates project schedule by studying project plan and specifications, calculating time requirements and sequencing project elementsMonitors project plan by reviewing design, specifications and recommend scheduling changes and actionsEnsuring that latest approved designs are used on site ensuring design complianceMonitors project cost by approving expendituresPrepares project status reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information and trends, recommending actionsEnsure safe and clean working environment by enforcing procedures, rules and regulationsMaintains product and company reputation by ensuring compliance with local legislationAssists the construction management team with design compliance inspectionsProvides technical input and reviews key project contracts and permitsContributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as neededAssists the construction management teams to interpret equipment specifications to equip the construction team with the relevant insight requiredEnsure that the engineering requirements are satisfactory for a given project within scope of work provided according to Engineering StandardsSupport the maintenance of a technical project library by systematically filing all approved designsPrepare Technical package for EPC to tender on – Design and Financial Close (Project Development assistance)Assist with Technical tender Adjudication – FCMonitor and own the Design Document Release schedule working with EPCs, the OE and other stakeholdersComment on designs received from the EPC – Entire Works inclusive of Grid and the IPP substation – trackers, panels, etc – not only admin function to coordinate – input is requiredKey Accountabilities: Construction Progress Monitoring and Reporting Key Activities Furnishing the team on site with approved designs for construction (IFC)Liaising with the team on site that works are completed according to approved QCP'sLiaising with the team on site that construction works are completed according to approved schedule.Liaising with the team on site of works that are in delay.Having progress meetings with the EPC Contractor (weekly) to asses on construction progressPreparing, implementing and recommending changes due to site conditionsWriting reports on the construction progressDiagnosing problems and troubleshooting equipmentAnalyzing if a ramp up is required to stay within scheduleDesign compliance and quality assurance inspectionsKey Activities Liaising with EPC Contractor, Eskom and Owners Engineer in order to finalize and agree on designsKey Accountabilities: Equipment Performance Review Key Activities Reviews Factory and Site Acceptance Tests to ensure equipment performance meets design requirementInspects and ensures that the equipment is built to designer's specification and Company's requirements to eliminate risk of equipment failureKey Activities Reviews technical studies prepared by consultants to ensure compliance with Grid codeEvaluates outcome of technical studies to determine feasibility of connecting a project to the National GridPOSITION SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS Internal Communication Technical DirectorContracts ManagerConstruction ManagerHealth Safety and Environmental ManagerGrid ManagerExternal Communication Contractors (Engineering and Construction)Equipment manufacturersQualifications Bachelor of Engineering Degree(Mech/Elec) or similar.
