To anchor our leading market position and sustain our growth, we are looking for an enthusiastic Solar PV or Wind Renewable Energy Engineer with experience to join our team based in Cape Town. You will be working with our team of experienced experts who will be your continuous sounding board while you serve the needs of our customers.
Your job will be versatile and dynamic: one day you will be on-site inspecting a construction project, and the next day you will be behind your PC screen analyzing expected yields or fine-tuning a PV design.
In this role, you will delight our clients (developers, IPPs, banks, investors, etc.) with your project follow-up reporting, design and technology reviews, and energy yield estimations for utility-scale solar PV or wind projects, while gradually getting trained in performing feasibility studies, either from the office or during site inspections.
Your main tasks will include:
Performing technical feasibility studies. Managing the project and overseeing its progress from start to finish. Managing projects under construction and providing follow-up reporting. Reviewing contracts and overall project design, technology, and suggesting potential improvements. Performing energy yield calculations using industry-recognized software tools and internal processes. Reporting to clients and lenders. Conducting site inspections before, during, and after construction of the projects. Interacting directly with customers, both written and verbally. You will work within the core of our consultancy team, giving you all the tools to quickly explore the solar PV/BESS and/or wind energy world. Initially, you will work as an expert on a project managed by one of your colleagues and gradually take on the role of project manager yourself.
You will report within our Africa team, which includes Due Diligence experts, Owner's Engineers, and Resource Assessment experts.
We are looking for a dynamic colleague who is eager to learn, has an open and flexible mindset, and possesses strong organizational skills.
Of course, there are some non-negotiables:
Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent experience (Master's degree is a plus). Minimum of 2-5 years of relevant experience. Familiarity with technical due diligence on SOLAR/BESS and/or WIND projects. Experience with reviewing PV EPC, O&M, PPA, and Wind turbine contracts as Lender's/Owner's technical advisor. Experience working with Lenders and IPPs (Independent Power Producers). Experience with technical solar and/or wind turbine inspections and construction monitoring. Involvement in both feasibility studies and project execution phases, including technical assessments, performance analysis, and system optimization. Strong overall computer skills and ability to learn multiple software tools. A critical mind with the ability to question ideas and assumptions. Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, on time, within budget and quality standards. Ability to convey information clearly and concisely, adapting communication style for different audiences. Fluency in spoken and written English. Affinity and interest in renewable energy. Valid working permit in South Africa. What gives you extra points:
Previous experience in a consultancy firm. Master's degree in a relevant field. Knowledge of PVsyst, AutoCAD, PVCase, WindPro, DigSilent, Homer, etc. Availability for short trips abroad. Other languages are a plus (e.g., French, Portuguese). We will ensure you are onboarded within our team, teaching you all the ins and outs of the role.
