Renal Registered Nurse and/or Clinical TechnologistFunction Nursing Facility Bloemfontein Position Renal Registered Nurse and/or Clinical Technologist IntroductionA vacancy exists for a Renal Registered Nurse and/or Clinical Technologist, based at Life Renal Dialysis Bloemfontein reporting to the Unit Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for directing patient care, implements treatment plans under the supervision of the Renal Unit Manager and contributes to the unit's overall objectives by ensuring compliance, safety and delivering high-quality care.
Critical OutputsPre-Dialysis Preparation
Ensure all patient preparation tasks are completed before treatment (e.g., setting up equipment, preparing medication, and keeping patient records) and that all preparation adheres to established safety and infection control protocols.Patient Assessment
Welcome and perform a comprehensive clinical assessment of all patients, including vital signs, access site evaluation, and reviewing medical history.Machine Setup
Connect patients to the dialysis machine, ensuring correct settings are applied based on individual patient prescriptions, including administering any medication. Verify machine calibration and safety parameters before initiating treatment.Patient Record Documentation
Accurately capture all patient medical information in Euclid and Tmon systems, ensuring compliance with confidentiality and data protection standards. Review records for accuracy and completeness before submission. Participate in regular audits to ensure record-keeping compliance.Billing Accuracy (Charge sheets)
Ensure all treatment and stock information is captured on Euclid and all events are closed (Create the charge sheet for every patient treatment session).Unit Round and Monitoring
Conduct regular ward/unit checks and continuously monitor patients throughout dialysis, adjusting treatment as necessary based on their condition. Escalate any abnormalities or concerns to the unit manager or doctor promptly. Document observations during rounds and follow up on any identified issues to ensure resolution.Patient Outcome Evaluation
Regularly evaluate and document patient outcomes, including fluid removal, symptom relief, and any adverse reactions during or after treatment. Engage in team discussions to optimise patient outcomes based on documented data.Patient and Family Education
Educate patients and their caregivers on dialysis procedures, home care, lifestyle adjustments, and potential complications. Provide emotional support and address concerns.Incident Reporting
Promptly report and manage all patient incidents, including adverse events or technical issues, according to LRC's protocols. Escalate incidents to the Renal Unit Manager to ensure proper resolution and participate in root cause analysis and corrective action planning when necessary.Post-Dialysis Care
Safely disconnect patients from dialysis machines, weigh them, and assist with their discharge process, ensuring they leave in stable condition. Provide post-treatment instructions to patients and caregivers.Equipment Care
Disinfect and properly maintain dialysis equipment, ensuring it is ready for the next use and adheres to infection control standards. Report any equipment malfunctions immediately to the unit manager. Implement a tracking system for equipment maintenance and calibration.Daily Delegation Execution
Carry out the daily list of delegated activities, ensuring all assigned tasks are completed within specified timeframes. Provide feedback to the unit manager regarding task delegation challenges, ensuring efficient workflow and staff utilisation.Named Nurse Responsibilities
Execute 'Named Nurse' responsibilities, acting as the primary nurse for designated patients and ensuring continuity of care. Regularly update patient care plans and communicate changes to relevant team members. Hold regular check-ins with patients to monitor progress and address any challenges.KPI Management
Monitor and manage all clinical Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for patient care, focusing on treatment effectiveness, safety, and patient satisfaction. Collaborate with the unit manager to identify areas for improvement and implement action plans, ensuring alignment with unit and organisational goals.Next-Day Planning
Plan for the next day's activities, including preparing treatment schedules, reviewing patient requirements, and ensuring necessary resources are in place. Communicate resource needs to the unit manager in advance to avoid delays. Ensure all staff know their responsibilities for the next day's activities.Data-Driven Decision Making
Utilise patient data to inform care decisions, contribute to team discussions and support continuous improvement efforts.Risk Identification and Mitigation
Identify potential risks in patient care processes and report them to the unit manager. Participate in mitigating these risks and ensuring patient experience, safety, and quality of care.RequirementsRelevant Degree or Diploma in NursingRelevant Degree or Diploma in Clinical TechnologyNurses - Current registration with SANCClinical Technologists (Renal) – Current registration with HPCSANursing work experience in a Renal UnitTo administer both acute and chronic dialysis treatmentsExperience and knowledge of all acute and chronic dialysis treatments in ICU and High Care settingMust be willing to fulfill a role in the unit according to the flexi-hours system and acute dialysis call systemOwn vehicle with a valid license and flexibility to travel for acute dialysisAbility to work with dialysis machines makes and modelsCompetenciesProblem-solving, analysis and judgmentResilienceEngaging diversityVerbal & written communication and presentationOrganisational awarenessDrive & energyExcellence orientationEthical behaviourBuilding relationshipsCustomer responsivenessTeamworkStrong Interpersonal skillsEmail ****** Closing date Thursday, November 28, 2024
