About the roleIn this role you will support R&D projects through the development process working with the wider R&D Team to ensure delivery of the projects in a timely manner. You will be responsible for product development from initiation to launch conferring with Senior Scientists / RD&A Managers where appropriate. You will also interact with process engineers, flavour experts, sales staff, marketing and End Use Market team, suppliers, manufacturing, customers and packaging and marketing specialists to resolve problems.Work Location: Hillcrest (Durban)Reporting To: RD&A Manager - Meat and SnacksKey responsibilitiesUnderstands key commercial requirements of the ingredient industry. Implements industry recognized methods. Keeps up to date on best practice requirements..Conducts sensory testing and application screening to support new solutions.Ensures that ingredient functionality into final products fits the purpose of the customer.Develops food system formulations and related applications stability performance through demonstrated understanding of food formulation and chemical interactions.Interacts and troubleshoots with customers on application concerns.Develops application knowledge within assigned food categories and becomes recognized as a solutions partner by food product developers.Assists customers with technical issues that may arise.Participates in designated R,D&A projects. Ensures appropriate documentation of experimental trials and outcomes to facilitate scale up and product transfer to manufacturing.Ensures that good laboratory practices and lab protocols are being met in line with Global. Evolves record documentation and methodology into appropriate database.Maintains the calibration of laboratory instruments, proper calibration records and laboratory supply stock documents and updates key learnings from work.Builds further scientific knowledge through interactions with senior scientist and/or academic experts, literature reviews, regulatory monitoring, and application studies. Sources external literature to guide thinking on specific projects.Establishes strong relationships with selected academic researchers and universities to strengthen the use of application abilities and pilot plant capabilities to strengthen Kerry as a leader.Attends trade shows, conferences, scientific meetings and short courses as necessary, making credible presentations to educate customers, students and industry contacts.Qualifications and skillsDiploma or Bachelor's Degree in Food Science, or similar field Minimum 5 - 8 years' experience within the Food and Beverage industry, as a Scientist or related experience. Experience in building of Customer-Supplier relationshipsKnowledge and experience of Product Costing is an advantageBeware of scams online or from individuals claiming to represent us.
