As a Community Ranger (Compliance), your primary focus will be safeguarding conservation values by monitoring activities on Public Conservation Land and taking compliance action as required.
Your main responsibilities will be compliance and monitoring, with some opportunities for community engagement.
In this role you will:
Lead on delivery of the National Compliance Strategy.Field and desktop-based monitoring of commercial activities on public conservation land.Prepare clear, concise, and accurate reports for compliance strategies and requirements.Respond to compliance issues raised in the district.Promote the value of conservation by lifting awareness and educating others.Collaborate with team members across the Department to understand conservation values and how these may be impacted by an activity.Work across district boundaries and agencies.We are seeking a critical thinker with strong communication skills and a passion for conservation.

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to write clearly and concisely using plain English, to provide context, critical analysis, and logical recommendations for decision makers.Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills, capable of fostering effective relationships.Proven negotiating and influencing skills.Strong organisational abilities, able to balance competing demands and meet deadlines.Ability to work well both alone and as part of a team.Willingness to engage with external stakeholders, attend meetings, and conduct site visits.Experience working within a statutory framework, compliance, regulatory space, or a similar process-based environment.A valid full New Zealand driver license.A good understanding of te ao Maori me nga tikanga.Experience in working with and partnering with statutory authorities, community groups, iwi or business groups.A compliance focused tertiary qualification, such as legal studies, policy, resource management, ecology or communications.Knowledge of the Whakatipu-wai-maori/Queenstown area.Mo te tima | About the team The Regional Operations Group is responsible for delivering conservation work on the ground through our biodiversity, recreation/historic, community and visitor centre teams.
You will be based out of the Whakatipu-wai-maori/Queenstown office at Arthurs Point.
