Position Available: Civil and Construction Estimator/ Quantity Surveyor

Job Overview:Contours Landscapes seeks an experienced Estimator / Quantity Surveyor to draft, prepare, and submit cost estimates for Civil Construction and Building construction bids and quotations. The estimation of Landscape construction will be taught in loco if you do not have experience in that field of work. The successful candidate will develop pricing strategies for each bid to determine gross and net profit margins, advise on contractual matters, and work alongside the Contracts Director to ensure projects achieve their gross profit targets.
Key Responsibilities:
Negotiate and secure contracts through architects, engineers, and other sources.
Draft and submit cost estimates, variation orders, and bids to meet submission deadlines.
Scrutinize Schedules of Quantities and Bills of Quantities.
Conduct take-offs to verify the accuracy of supplied quantities.
Manage and mentor junior/senior estimators to meet submission targets and deadlines.
Manage the internal estimating department throughout the pre-contract, interim, and post-contract stages.
Liaise with clients and contractors throughout all project stages, from inception to final account.
Develop risk matrices for each project based on contract types, client reputation, timelines, and internal cash flow considerations.
Refine and improve internal costing models and work processes.
Support the construction team in tracking construction stages to ensure costs align with the budget.
Provide financial progress reports to the team and directors.
Advise and mentor the construction team on legal and contractual matters.
Prepare estimates and quotes for variation works and site instructions.
Participate in project cost estimation, procurement documentation, and finalization of accounts.
Communicate clearly and effectively with clients, colleagues, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
Manage bid submission follow-ups with prospective clients.
Who You Will Manage:You will manage 2-4 junior and senior estimators who will assist with setting up costing sheets and populating the prime costs for each rate.
Who You Will Report To:You will report to the Managing Director, CFO, and Contracts Director.

Minimum Requirements (Non-Negotiable):
A SACQSP-accredited Quantity Surveyor degree or national diploma.
A minimum of 10 years of proven track record as a Quantity Surveyor.
Valid driver's license with no endorsements.
Stable work history with contactable references.
Working knowledge of COLTO, NEC, FIDIC, GCC, and JBCC suite of contracts.
South African citizenship.
IT and Computer Literacy:
Proficiency in MS Office Suite, including MS Project (non-negotiable).
Knowledge of Candy / BuildSmart (beneficial).
Familiarity with Pastel, AutoCAD, and Revit (beneficial).
Language Proficiency:
Fluent in English.
Proficiency in Afrikaans is an advantage.
Remuneration Package:Salary is negotiable and will be commensurate with your skills, qualifications, and experience.
