Position: Quality Controller
Reports to: Quality Assurance Manager
Location: Johannesburg - Eastrand
Job Purpose:
The Quality Controller, in a technical capacity, is responsible for ensuring adherence to quality standards and specifications throughout the packaging manufacturing process. The primary objective is to maintain and improve product safety and quality, conducting thorough inspections, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to address and resolve quality-related issues.
Key Performance Areas and Responsibilities:
Quality Inspections:
Conduct regular inspections of raw materials, in-process production, and finished goods.
Utilize technical tools and equipment to assess product quality against established standards.
Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain detailed and accurate records of quality inspections and findings.
Generate reports summarizing quality metrics and issues identified during inspections.
Collaboration with Production Teams:
Collaborate with production teams to ensure understanding and adherence to quality specifications.
Provide feedback and guidance to address and prevent quality issues in real-time.
Root Cause Analysis:
Conduct root cause analysis for quality issues, identifying underlying factors.
Work with cross-functional teams to implement corrective and preventive actions.
Quality Assurance Procedures:
Implement and monitor adherence to quality assurance procedures and protocols.
Continuously review and update quality control processes to improve efficiency.
Training and Development:
Provide training to production teams on quality standards and inspection techniques.
Support the development of a quality-conscious culture within the organization.
Key Performance Indicators:
Quality Inspections:
Defect Rate: Maintain a defect rate below 2% in finished goods.
Inspection Accuracy: Achieve 98% accuracy in identifying and documenting defects.
Documentation and Reporting:
Accuracy in Records: Maintain a 95% or higher accuracy rate in maintaining quality inspection records.
Timeliness of Reporting: Ensure reports are generated and disseminated within established timelines.
Collaboration with Production Teams:
Feedback Effectiveness: Measure the effectiveness of feedback provided to production teams.
Adherence to Quality Specifications: Ensure 100% adherence to quality specifications by production teams.
Root Cause Analysis:
Timely Root Cause Identification: Achieve timely identification of root causes for quality issues.
Corrective Action Implementation: Ensure the successful implementation of corrective actions.
Quality Assurance Procedures:
Procedure Adherence Rate: Maintain a 98% or higher rate of adherence to quality assurance procedures.
Continuous Improvement Initiatives: Implement at least two continuous improvement initiatives per quarter.
Training and Development:
Training Impact: Measure the impact of training programs on production team understanding of quality standards.
Culture Development: Contribute to the development of a quality-conscious organizational culture.
Additional Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Quality Management, qualification in packaging or a related technical field.
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in quality control within the manufacturing industry, preferably in packaging.
In-depth knowledge of quality control processes, techniques, and tools.
Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulatory requirements.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Detail-oriented with a focus on precision and accuracy.
Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
