Killarney Gardens, Cape Town, South Africa | Posted on 13/06/2024 A manufacturing plant and supplier of top quality fresh dairy products to high-end clients, is seeking to appoint a Quality Control Manager. The ideal candidate thrives in a driven, hard-working environment and must be solution-orientated with experience in the manufacturing and developing of short shelf life, fresh foods, food safety and food quality management systems. You should be comfortable and able to handle both the administrative as well as practical side of the job. This permanent full-time in-office opportunity has a 45 hour work week, Monday to Friday with flexible hours from 7am - 5pm. Candidate should be willing to work on a public holiday or Saturday on a rotation basis if and when necessary. Responsibilities: Reporting to the Managing Director, you must be able to work independently taking initiative while knowing when to consult the MD. ? Maintaining brand integrity and product safety whilst performing risk mitigation. ? Manage an existing HACCP accredited system. ? Identify and implement necessary changes. ? Contributing towards the category strategy, ensuring innovative and safe products of consistent quality. ? Developing high-quality products that adheres to the company's brand values of quality, freshness, innovation, inspiration, food safety and value. ? Train, manage and monitor the unskilled and semi-skilled production employees regarding HACCP procedures and systems during production day and where applicable. ? Positively influencing all contributing aspects of the supply chain to optimise quality and food safety. ? Taking full responsibility for audits within the production facility and supply base. ? Formulating and/or managing product specifications, ensuring accuracy. ? Ensuring effective product accept/reject criteria. including producing traceability reports when necessary. ? Identifying and managing critical control points (CCPs) within production facilities and ensuring that suppliers identify and manage their CCPs correctly. ? Overseeing end-to-end quality management systems within farm production facilities and external suppliers. ? Providing technical input into category, quality management and supplier strategies. ? Overseeing packaging development, conformance to legislation including labelling and consumer acts. ? Ensuring accurate nutritional information and date marking/coding. ? Overseeing effective allergen management within all production facilities and among suppliers. ? Supplier approval/sourcing, based on basic hygiene compliance and risk management. ? Shelf-life assessment and implementation. ? Managing microbiological testing, specifying type of tests, frequency, and managing criteria for both product and environment. ? Improving and ensuring production efficiencies within production facilities and the supply base. ? Raw material sourcing and approval: ensuring that production and suppliers source from approved raw material suppliers, and that specifications and allergen management practices are in place. ? Troubleshoot customer complaints and perform root cause analyses. ? Uphold international standards for food manufacturing and processing, using cutting edge equipment, processing technology knowledge, and experience. ? Spend time daily in production areas to manage and evaluate HACCP systems and procedures. Role Overview: The successful candidate will take ownership of the role's responsibilities, demonstrating both operational and strategic expertise. Requirements Qualifications and Experience: Must have Grade 12 and relevant diploma or degree (beneficial) A minimum of 5 years' solid industry experience in a cold chain manufacturing environment Good manufacturing practice for HACCP accreditation Any food safety certifications (FETC is advantageous but not required (it is a progression from HACCP and may be necessary in the future) Fluent in Afrikaans and English Must have an understanding of high and low-risk food processing and the correct management of cross-flow – especially in such product as fresh milk with a very short life span, from production to BB date. Understanding of cold chain management and critical control factors for maintaining food products in their optimum state Practical experience in and understanding of different food preparation stages and processes Knowledge of technical processes and principles including good manufacturing practice HACCP, root cause analysis, supply chain, raw materials, allergen management, and micro and listeria management Knowledge of packing functionality and application Understanding of environmental management and sustainability Team player attitude with the ability to work effectively with a diverse team Confident individual and able to steer decisions and principles to protect brand values Well-developed sensory skills with diverse food experience and exposure Outstanding interpersonal skills, including networking, influencing, communication and conflict resolution Leadership qualities for effective cross-functional team collaboration Experience in manufacturing and production of fresh milk and dairy products Knowledge of food safety and food quality management systems Retail food technology and strategic product management experience (advantageous) Operational, strategic, and people-management skills Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing market and organisational requirements Passion for the work that inspires others Innovative mindset and adaptability Working Hours: 45 hour work week, Monday to Friday.
