Pesto Princess manufactures fresh, preservative-free pesto sauces, soups, cooking sauces & dips sold through retail chains and food distributors nationwide. The factory is in a secure business park, South Peninsula, Cape Town.
The Role Pesto Princess wishes to employ an experienced Quality Assurance Manager (QAM) to lead our quality assurance programme and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and company policies. The successful candidate will oversee the implementation and maintenance of our quality management system, ensuring the production of safe, high-quality fresh food products. The QAM will work closely with NPD and manage a technical team of 5 food technologists. Core Responsibilities, Duties & Tasks Develop, implement, and maintain a robust quality management system (QMS) aligned with industry standards (e.g., GFSI, HACCP, ISO 22000).Manage all day-to-day technical aspects of operation with a hands-on approach.Lead and manage the quality assurance team, providing guidance and training.Conduct internal audits and risk assessments to identify areas for improvement.Collaborate with cross-functional teams (such as NPD, production, procurement) to ensure quality standards are met.Develop and maintain quality metrics, reporting, and analytics.Manage third-party audits, certifications, and customer compliance requirements.Stay up to date with industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging quality issues.Develop and manage the annual quality budget.Champion and execute regular hands-on training to foster a strong food safety culture.Skills, Experience & Attributes You have a qualification in Food Science, Quality Management or equivalent with a minimum of 5 years' technical experience in a food manufacturing environment.You pay attention to detail and are systematic, meticulous, action-focused and good at problem solving.You have strong leadership skills and communicate well.You are a hands-on, people's person with strong relationship building ability, able to influence others in a positive manner enabling buy in with regards to best practice, improvements and commitment to standards, policy and procedures.You embrace food safety as a culture, not just a system.You are mature and have high levels of emotional intelligence, able to work with individuals and teams, at all levels.You are passionate about environmental sustainability.You care and have integrity.Company Culture Caring is the central company value on our business journey.
