Access World is a global commodity warehousing and logistics business. We specialize in handling, storage, and processing of commodities including non-ferrous and ferrous metals, ferroalloys, project cargo, oil & gas, and other agricultural products. In addition, we are an approved warehouse keeper of the London Metal Exchange, and we provide LME warehousing and associated services to traders, producers, financiers, and consumers of base metals. Access World also acts as collateral manager of ferroalloys, minor metals as well as oil and gas. Regions operate in semi-autonomous offices with their corporate functions including commercial, finance HR, legal, and operations.

Reporting to: Projects Commercial Manager
Purposes of the position:

A highly motivated individual with the relevant skill sets, capable of establishing and developing vendor relationships in Sub-Saharan Africa, including transporters/brokers and port operators.
Procurement of transport and ocean freight rates locally and internationally for both import and export cargo.
Preparation and sending of project quotations & proposals.
Maintain and develop existing and new customer relations with specific focus on Project Cargo.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

Attending to customer enquiries.
Actively participate as a member of the AW South Africa team and work closely with other Commercial and business unit Managers within Sub-Saharan Africa and other Access World entities globally.
Compile proposals.
Request rates from service providers and compile proposals.
Establish and develop vendor relationships in South Africa such as with abnormal transporters, breakbulk vessel brokers/carriers, container shipping lines, and freight forwarders in Access World office locations.
Maintain high standard of service delivery.
Communicate with suppliers and clients.
Resolve problems efficiently.
Address internal and external operational issues, liaising and coordinating with vendors (ports operators, transporters, etc.) and internal clients.
Liaise and update clients.
Resolve queries.
Knowledge of Excel and Word.
Must be able to cope under pressure.
Must be able to work after hours where required to complete tasks.
Good attitude and willingness to work and learn.
Monthly commercial activity reporting in the form of current sales pipeline.
Send customer onboarding docs and compile completed docs for submission to legal.
Work through service agreements for secured business with the legal department and projects head.

Network of interaction:
Comprising but not limited to the following:

Internal:

South Africa Team (e.g., Customer Service, Finance, HR, Commercial, Operations).
Africa Freight & Projects team, Commercial team.
Africa Projects Commercial Team.
Overseas Access World branches.


External:

Strategic service providers and vendors (e.g., transporters, brokers, ports operators, etc.).
Carrier agents and freight forwarders.
Export and Project clients locally and internationally with a focus on Chinese and project cargo customer base.



Learning opportunities:

Specific requirements for the position:

Essential:

Minimum a college diploma/degree from a recognized institute.
Minimum 3 years sales/estimator experience in Sub Saharan Africa Project Forwarding, especially via ports of entry such as Durban, Beira, Dar es Salaam, and Walvis Bay.
Excellent commercial and entrepreneurial flair is critical to the success of this role.
Strong builder of relationships with interested parties.
Good knowledge of the shipping and logistics management industries specifically focused on local & overborder transport of Breakbulk, OOG, and heavy-lift.
Analytical in approach with capabilities of compiling project shipment estimates and load planning.
Proven ability to work on cross-functional and multicultural teams.
Strong character, initiative, creative, innovative and analytical skills.
Meticulous, responsible and positive working attitude.
Ability to work independently and in a team.
Adaptable and able to accommodate prevailing conditions.
Proficient with Microsoft Office.
Ability to work effectively in a high-pressure and fast-paced working environment meeting deadlines.
Ability to travel.
Availability after office hours.
Accuracy and attention to detail.
Strong organizational skills.
Good administrative skills.
Quick to learn.
Proactivity.
General knowledge of exports, imports, warehousing, and transport.
Positive attitude and willingness to help.


Preferred:

Experience in 3PL logistics sector/project cargo/mining industry is preferred.
Ability to attract new customer/business outside of the current project, mining, metals, and mineral markets such as renewable energy.
Previous dealings with Chinese customer base & Chinese verbal abilities.



Communication Skills/Languages:

Good in both written and spoken English.
Superior interpersonal and communication skills.
Effective negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
Regularly updating customers on rate levels and market dynamics.
Effective use of telephonic and email communications.
Close working relationship with staff and clients.
Outgoing personality to be able to communicate effectively with customers and build positive relationships.
Communicate and work with all overseas Access World branches on Freight & Project leads to and from Africa.
