Job Advert Summary
PHSB is looking for a suitably qualified persons to take on project management responsibilities for a community-based research projects implemented in the Saldanha Bay Municipality, but based at the Cape Town office. The successful candidate will primarily manage a community based public health related research project.
The Project Manager will report to the SRS and co-I of the study, work closely with our partner organisation. This position is offered on a 24 month contract.
Minimum Requirements
Minimum requirements:
A Master's degree in the social and human sciences or related fields; OR relevant certification, qualification, or experience
2-3 years' experience managing research projects involving human participants
Experience managing multi-phase projects.
Experience supervising and managing teams
Experience in collecting data, including in-depth interviews and focus group discussions
Fluency in English and Afrikaans
Ability to use Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Good interpersonal, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work accurately, independently and in a team.
Ability to work to strict deadlines and attention to detail.
A valid and unendorsed driver's license
Preference will be given to candidates who have:
Previous experience with projects on high-risk pregnancy and substance use
Applicants may be required to take a practical skills assessment test as part of the interview process.
Duties and Responsibilities
Key responsibilities:
Planning, organising, and managing the project so that operational and scientific goals are achieved.
Participating in regular project team calls with collaborators.
Recruiting, training, and providing ongoing support, supervision, and mentorship to project staff
Collecting data
Fostering a culture of continuous learning through ongoing assessment of study activities, processes, and systems
Monitoring individual and team performance as per the HSRC performance management and appraisal processes
Assisting with the management of the budget and finances of assigned projects, ensuring appropriate use of funds for designated purposes
Ensuring regular documentation and reporting on the scientific, ethical, and financial requirements of the study
Working closely with the scientific team and study staff to support an active publication and dissemination strategy.
Representing the project through various local, national, and international fora and networks
Maintain documentation and records of all field activities and prepare field reports.
Adhere to ethical conduct requirements in the field and office
Coordination and planning of project activities with the project team to ensure the work is conducted smoothly, ethically, and completed to deadlines.
Where necessary, work with the partner organisation to secure community entry and facilitate community preparation for study activities to be conducted.
Ensure study data is correctly stored and uploaded using data technology provided.
Conduct quality assurance steps to ensure protocol fidelity.
Manage delivery of services from external service providers where applicable.
Carrying out any other activities deemed necessary for the success of the project.
