We are dedicated to making our education, training, and activities rewarding and welcoming for all.Your opportunity:Under the direction of the Project Lead at the Dunlap Institute, the incumbent acts as the project manager for the Canadian Data-Intensive Astrophysics PLatform (CanDIAPL, pronounced 'candy apple'). CanDIAPL is a multi-million-dollar project that will build core computing hardware infrastructure and software pipeline infrastructure to enable groundbreaking science with large-scale telescope surveys at optical and radio wavelengths. The CanDIAPL project manager will have oversight of the technical and budgetary success of the project in partnership with the CanDIAPL Science Board and institutional partners University of Alberta, McGill University, Queen's University, and Western University.This multi-institutional national infrastructure project is funded by the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) led by the University of Toronto and the Dunlap Institute. The project manager will coordinate with the CanDIAPL hardware and software infrastructure managers to ensure that the priorities and directions set by the CanDIAPL Science Board are implemented.The project manager will develop project schedules, including milestones, critical paths, timelines, and deliverables, and will be responsible for reporting and compliance with institutional, provincial, and national requirements. They will manage the project budget, facilitate purchasing and hiring, and schedule day-to-day project activities. They will interpret and apply policies and procedures when making independent decisions. They will write and edit reports on management aspects of CanDIAPL, maintain project records, generate specialized analyses and reports for financial planning, and report on project progress and budget to the CanDIAPL Science Board.Your responsibilities will include:Developing project schedules including milestones, critical path, timelines, deliverables and reportingAnalyzing and documenting successes and adjustments to project implementation activitiesMonitoring, recording, reconciling and/or reporting on funding accounts for grants and contractsLiaising with internal and external contacts to facilitate purchasing and/or procurement processesPlanning and estimating financial resources required for programs and/or projectsDirecting a small group in a limited area, including responsibility for scheduling and/or workflowEssential Qualifications:Master's Degree, preferably but not required in science or engineering, or an acceptable combination of equivalent education and experience.Minimum five years of recent and relevant experience in project management (preferably in scientific or other related fields), including budget and grant management, strategic planning, reporting, and meeting logisticsExperience in providing direction and creating work plans to ensure project milestones are metExperience with project management frameworks and softwareStrong analytical, organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills.Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks at the same timeGood written and oral communication and interpersonal skillsAccuracy and attention to detailAbility to work independently and in a team environmentWillingness to travel to partner organizations within Canada on occasionAssets (Nonessential):Graduation from a program specializing in project managementFormal designation as a Project Management Professional (PMP) or Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) from the Project Management Institute (PMI)Expertise in the project management of large projects, preferably in an academic setting with members from a wide variety of backgrounds, and expertise in compliance with and reporting of CFI grantsExpertise in managing software-related or scientific projectsTo be successful in this role you will be:AdaptableOrganizedProactiveSelf-directedTeam playerNotes:This is a two-year term position with the possibility of renewal.This role is currently eligible for a hybrid work arrangement, pursuant to University policies and guidelines, including but not limited to the University of Toronto's Alternative Work Arrangements Guideline.Closing Date: 09/06/2024, 11:59PM ETEmployee Group: USWAppointment Type: Grant - TermSchedule: Full-TimePay Scale Group & Hiring Zone: USW Pay Band 13 -- $84,813. with an annual step progression to a maximum of $108,463.
