Key Responsibilities: Mechanical Engineering Designs: Prepare mechanical engineering designs, scope of work, and specifications, primarily for projects involving pharmaceuticals, food, chemicals, manufacturing, as well as water and wastewater sectors. Project Coordination: Coordinate the efforts of various project staff across different disciplines to meet project schedules and deliverables. Project Schedule Management: Prepare, monitor, and control the project schedule, ensuring deadlines are met. Cost Control: Develop, monitor, and control project cost schedules, including capital and manhour costs. Client Liaison: Maintain direct communication with clients regarding project progress and requirements. Project Meetings: Organize and record internal and client project meetings. Procurement Support: Prepare detailed purchase specifications, issue and evaluate tenders, assist in contract preparation with clients and suppliers, and expedite the delivery of goods. Supplier and Contractor Management: Liaise with suppliers during procurement and critique supplier designs to incorporate into overall project design. Manage contractors during construction phases. Commissioning and Qualification: Prepare commissioning and qualification schedules and supervise commissioning/qualification procedures. Compliance: Ensure adherence to safety regulations, including the OHS Act, and address any issues that arise during project execution. Team Development: Mentor and develop other engineers within the team. Ad-hoc Tasks: Support company directors with marketing and take on additional tasks as requested by management.
Required Skills and Competencies: Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, with meticulous attention to detail. Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication in English. Time Management: Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Teamwork & Leadership: Ability to work independently while also being an effective team player. Proven ability to motivate and mentor others. Project Management: Strong organizational and planning skills with experience managing project schedules, costs, and resources. Health & Safety Knowledge: Familiarity with compliance to the OHS Act and other relevant safety regulations.
Required Qualifications: Education: Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, B.Tech, or S4 qualification. Experience: Minimum of 5 years' experience in a project environment, with at least 2 years in a similar role. Additional Qualifications: Post-graduate qualification in Project Management would be advantageous. Computer Literacy: Proficiency in MS Project and MS Office. Engineering Contracts Knowledge: Experience with various engineering contracts (e.g., FIDIC, NEC, CIDB).
