Project EngineerThe position required is for a Project Engineer.To be responsible for the co-ordination and implementation of project management structures and accountable for the overall success of specific projects.The company is based in Pretoria, but all employees can expect to be involved in various projects throughout South Africa. Therefore, the candidate must be prepared to travel for temporary timeframes in the project's life cycle.ResponsibilitiesCo-ordinating the efforts of other project staff to meet project schedules and deliverables.Monitoring and controlling of project costs related to capital and manhours.Liaising directly with clients on project issues.Accountable for preparation and maintenance of overall project schedules.Accountable for preparation and maintenance of overall cost plan.Scheduling of meetings.Responsible for recording and issuing of minutes of project and client meetings.Preparation of monthly project status report.Assisting in the development of discipline engineers.Actively assisting directors with company marketing.Management of ad hoc problems during project execution and implementation of suitable contingency plans.Ability to execute functions of Senior Discipline Engineer when project structure does not have this resource.Ad hoc tasks as requested by management including but not limited to proposals.Comply with company HR Policy and Procedures manual.Responsible for sharing engineering know how, experience and generally uplifting and mentoring younger and or less experienced colleagues.Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.Good written and verbal communication skills (English).Ability to work independently.Team player.Good organising and planning skills.Ability to self-motivate.Ability to set up and maintain project financial controls and project schedules.Ability to successfully motivate others.Computer literacy (AutoCAD, MS Project and MS Office).Minimum of four years experience in a project engineering environment.Good understanding of the engineering environment.Understanding of the relevant standards and design codes (SANS10400).Specification & Project Schedule PreparationPreparation of scope of work/specifications for draughting personnel and assisting Project Manager in preparation of project schedule for the scope of work under their control. Managing of project resources.Supplier, Site & Contractor ManagementCritiquing supplier designs and incorporating these into overall design and managing contractors during construction. Preparation of commissioning schedules and supervision/assistance in commissioning procedure.Managing SpendingAssisting Project Manager in compiling project cost schedule and controlling costs related to the scope of work. Liaising with suppliers during the procurement cycle on all technical issues, managing purchase orders and evaluating supplier invoices for payment. Ensuring that the delivery of goods is expedited.Tenders & Procurement SpecificationsPreparation of detailed purchase specifications and equipment data sheets as well as issuing and evaluating tenders and preparing bills of quantities.Minimum RequirementsPrepared to travel and work away from home.A valid driver's license.Performance ReviewEmployees will be measured against the performance standards contained in this job description.
