The Office of Indigenous Health, part of Temerty Medicine's Vice Dean of Strategy portfolio, is committed to supporting learners, faculty, and staff throughout the education continuum.
Our role involves identifying the necessary resources and providing Indigenous leadership, with the goal of creating culturally safe learning and working environments where Indigenous knowledge is both respected and valued.
As Program Coordinator, Mushkiki Miikan, you will play an instrumental role in expanding support for Indigenous students in postsecondary education and across medical school pathways.
You will collaborate closely with key partners and stakeholders, including the Office of Access and Outreach and NOSM University, to coordinate and implement a program that meets the needs and interests of both prospective and current applicants.
You will also provide guidance to Indigenous learners towards relevant activities and events hosted by partner institutions, ensuring their perspectives are integrated into both the planning and execution of program initiatives.
Your deep understanding of Indigenous cultures, histories, and contemporary issues and commitment to enhancing Indigenous health outcomes and fostering an inclusive academic environment will be crucial for our success.
Your responsibilities will include: Fostering strong relationships with partnering organizations, Indigenous communities, and other key stakeholdersCommunicating among project partners, stakeholders, and participants to encourage collaboration and information exchangePromoting programs and service offerings, liaising with communications staff to coordinate marketing activitiesAttending fairs, speaking to community members and prospective learnersDesigning surveys, interviews and other research tools for program evaluationEssential Qualifications: Advanced College Diploma (3 years) or acceptable combination of equivalent experienceMinimum five years' related outreach and program experience working within Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, or Inuit) communities and agenciesA deep understanding of Indigenous cultures, histories, and contemporary issues, as well as a commitment to improving Indigenous health outcomes and promoting an inclusive academic environmentExperience working and collaborating in cross-cultural settings, preferably with Elders, Senators, Knowledge Keepers, Indigenous leaders, communities, and organizationsClear and demonstrated experience of culturally safe practices when working with Indigenous peoplesExperience coordinating education programs and contributing to the development, implementation and evaluation of programmingExperience drafting presentations and writing reports for reviewDemonstrated experience coordinating events and outreach activities; experience speaking in front of large audiences for outreach purposesExperience with collecting and analyzing data and the preparation of data reportsAdvanced level proficiency with MS Office Suite, survey tool, presentation software and content management systemsMust possess excellent interpersonal and diplomacy skills, and the ability to build collaborative relationships at all levels with proven ability to exhibit tact and diplomacy in sensitive situationsStrong oral and written communication skills, including editing skillsDemonstrated organizational and planning skillsMust embrace diversity and inclusion as an integral component of a quality university experienceMust be an enthusiastic and energetic team player who works collaboratively in a complex multi-stakeholder environmentAssets (Nonessential): Lived experience as a member of Indigenous communities preferredTo be successful in this role you will be: ApproachableDiplomaticPerceptiveTeam playerThis position may require travel within the GTA; driver's license preferred.
