The Department of Information Systems invites applications from eligible candidates at the level of Professor who are prepared and eligible to serve concurrently as the HoD.
The Department
The Department is situated within the Faculty of Commerce, primarily servicing students reading for the BBusSc, BCom, and BSc (InfSys) degrees. The Department was first established at Rhodes University in 1980 as a sub-department of the Department of Business Administration (now Management). Today, it is a flourishing, independent Department with a full undergraduate and post-graduate program.
Information Systems is a two-year major that attracts numerous students intent on pursuing careers in either Information Systems or Accounting. All students are required to have completed a first-year semester course in computing offered by the Department of Computer Science before registering for Information Systems.
The Department offers courses at the second, third, and fourth (honors) year levels, as well as Masters and PhD degrees by thesis.

Main Objectives
All academics are responsible for the dissemination of knowledge (teaching and learning), creation of knowledge (research) and community engagement, recognising that there are differences in the execution of these responsibilities within the various departments and Faculties. Academics are also expected to assume some administrative, management and/or leadership duties at the departmental, Faculty and/or University level.
In addition, a Professor and Associate Professor are to provide academic leadership in the following areas: teaching and learning; research and community engagement as well as to contribute towards the governance of the institution. This leadership contribution of the Professor should be evidenced at the departmental, Faculty and institutional levels.
The Requirements
Professor
PhD in Information Systems or equivalent.
Professional experience in Information Systems or equivalent.
At least ten years of teaching experience are required at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including Master's and PhD levels.
Experience teaching Information Systems in one or more of the following disciplinary areas: Primary (Programming, Databases, Data Analytics, SQL, Information Systems Security; User experience (UX); Digital ethics; Systems Analysis).
Research supervision of Master's and PhD degrees to completion is required.
An established research group/area.
International profile in discipline.
Track record of administration, management, and/or leadership roles (leadership roles may be informal).
A willingness to head the department will be an advantage.

Remuneration per annum:

Basic Pensionable Salary per annum: R1 086 915
