Job Purpose: The appointed person will be responsible for curriculum development, supervision of postgraduate students, lecturing, involvement in research in Information Technology, Multimedia Studies, and promote multidisciplinary engagements between the IT Department and the Media Department at CPUT. Responsibilities may include providing academic leadership in specific areas of Information Technology, Multimedia Studies, administration and management of subject tuition and management of staff members assigned to the departments/ Research Projects. The appointed person will also support faculty research initiatives by undertaking research that contributes to the faculty's strategic objectives. The appointed person will also be responsible for raising the standard of scholarship and research in the Department of Information Technology, and the Media Department of CPUT by initiating relevant research projects, providing mentorship for junior staff members, and supervising postgraduate students up to the doctoral level. In addition, the incumbent will still perform all the functions of academics, including teaching at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, supervising students, community engagement, curriculum development, academic administration, and conducting research.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
Minimum Requirements: Professor
- A Doctoral Degree in Computer Science/ Information Technology / Multimedia Technology/ Multimedia Studies
- Registered with a professional body where applicable
- At least ten (10) years of teaching experience in Higher Education
- Successful supervision of doctoral and masters students to completion within the IT or Media Domain
- A substantial publication record in accredited journals in the last five years
- Experience in curriculum/ academic programme development (will be an added advantage)
Recommendations:
- At least three (3) years of exposure to program management and curriculum development
- The candidate must have the expertise to research, teach, and supervise postgraduate students in specific areas of Computer Science: Modern programming languages (like Java, Python, PHP, R, C++, C#), Data Science, Machine Learning, Database Systems, Big Data, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Security
- Expertise in multimedia technologies
- Evidence of grantsmanship

- Build and enhance research capacity within the Faculty/Department through training

- Lead academic development, curriculum development initiatives, courseware development and assessment
- Develop and maintain linkages with industry and professional bodies and promote community participation
