Professor / Associate Professor: Public Health (Permanent)
Type of engagement: Permanent appointmentThe Professor is responsible for teaching and learning practices in their specific subject area. It is expected from a Professor to provide leadership in research guidance and output in the Department of Public Health. In addition, the Professor will supervise postgraduate students and assist in administrative duties in the Department/Faculty of Health Sciences. The Professor reports to the Head of Department.
Job DescriptionKEY PERFORMANCE AREAS: KPA 1: Teaching post-graduate courses Teaching and assessment tasks of relevant postgraduate modules.All administrative tasks relating to teaching such as course evaluation and submitting of marks.Providing research supervision to postgraduate students (Masters, PhD).KPA 2: Research Undertake publishable academic research, attend and present research findings at national and international conferences.Secure external research grants and provide scholarships for postgraduate students.Contribute to Departmental/Faculty administration.Assist with Head of Department administrative and management duties.Contribute/take a leadership role in departmental, faculty, and university committees.Participate in community engagement integrated with teaching and/or research.Responsibilities include: Provide academic leadership in research, curriculum design, development, and implementation.Teach undergraduate and postgraduate programs.Undertake publishable academic research.Participate in community engagement integrated with teaching and/or research.Perform academic leadership and related administrative duties.Secure external research grants and establish programs.Additional requirements: Evidence of successful fundraising for research-related activities in Public Health.Evidence of academic leadership and/or mentoring emerging researchers.Evidence of attracting and working with post-doctoral fellows will be an added advantage.Evidence of professional and academic standing in the field of Public Health.Recognition as a leading scholar in a chosen area of research (e.g. NRF rating; international keynote/plenaries) will be an added advantage.Inherent CriteriaQualifications: Doctoral degree in Public Health.Experience: At least 10 years' experience in higher education for a full Professor / 7 years for Associate Professor with extensive teaching and research experience in Public Health.Track record of research publications commensurate with the academic rank level of a full Professor/ Associate Professor.Extensive successful postgraduate Masters and Doctoral supervision.Application RequirementA letter of motivation.An abridged CV.Names and contact details for at least 3 referees.Certified copies of matric and degree certificates and Identity Document.
