Job Description
One of the world's leading Building Services consultancies is looking to employ a Professional Electrical Engineer/Technologist in their Cape Town office.
Minimum Requirements
BSc/BEng/BTech Electrical Engineering
PrEng/PrTech with a minimum of 3 years' experience post registration
Minimum 5 – 7 years' experience in consulting engineering within the building services environment
Key Competencies and Skills
Good to excellent communication skills: Proficiency in English, including report writing abilities. Ability to communicate clearly and accurately with internal and external professional teams, and clients via email, telecommunication, and face-to-face meetings.
Knowledge of SANS standards: Familiarity with SANS10142-1&2, SANS10139, SANS10400, and SANS204 among others.
Understanding of building contracts: Knowledge of various building contracts applicable to the building services industry (i.e. JBCC, Fidic, NEC, etc.).
BIM and CAD software experience: Knowledge and experience with Autodesk BIM (Revit, Navisworks, Glue, Field, etc.) and CAD software.
Certification: Registered as an Autodesk Certified Professional: MEP Electrical (advantageous).
Electrical software proficiency: Knowledge and experience with electrical software packages such as Relux and/or Dialux, CBi and/or Ecodial and/or Amtech.
Microsoft Office skills: Higher than average proficiency in the Microsoft Office package (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.).
Independence: Ability to work independently, take responsibility/ownership for designs with minimal input, and follow up from senior management/engineers.
Attention to detail: High-level quality focus when performing design reviews for sign-off with internal working peers and the BIM team.
Time-management skills: Good self and project time-management skills.
Knowledge of latest technologies: Understanding of the latest technologies within the building services industry (e.g. lighting, UPS, etc.).
Self-motivation: Ambitious and able to suggest and drive internal efficiencies.
Creative solutions: Ability to offer creative solutions to client, architectural, and/or interior design requirements.
Professional interfacing: Able to interface professionally across all levels of the professional team and with the client, think on their feet and remain calm when faced with challenges/confrontations. Have a pro-active attitude.
Multi-disciplinary input: Ability to offer input with multiple engineering disciplines in project meetings.
Client marketing: Good client marketing characteristics, including working with external project professional team members.
Team player: Must be a team player and able to work independently on challenging projects that may have tight timelines.
