JOB TITLE: Production ManagerJob DescriptionProductionAssist supervisors and planner in developing production plan, policies, programs and objectivesReview and adjust the schedule where neededMonitor and control production targets and maintain quality standards and monitor improvement and recommendations through CPARManagement of process team to investigate and root cause corrective actionsMonitor and guide department supervisors in manufacturing and safety proceduresDepartment visual management is maintained and that communication within morning meetings is effective (bad news first)Manage human and material resources to meet production targetsWork out and implement standard operating procedures for production operationsManaging all product and process costings, headcounts, and manhoursLabour costing and requisition motivation and approvalEnsure that standard operating procedures are adhered toDetermine and implement improvements to the production processPrepare and maintain production reports daily, weekly, monthlyMonitor and review the performance of staff and organize necessary interventions for improvementImplement cost control programsEnsure efficient collaboration and coordination between relevant departments including commercial, stores, distribution, technical and management teamsCommunication with customers and suppliersMonitor production efficiencies in all departments and ensure corrective actions are taken to rectify poor performanceEnsure and analyze production and quality control to detect and correct problemsManage all production employees directly or indirectly through supervisorsWork with HR on staff performance related issues and discipline in line with company policiesMonitor and control company code of conduct for employeesDirect and coordinate various programs essential to manufacturing processesDevelop action plans and targets in line with strategy and operating budget of departmentHeads reviews and reports on each department's strategy and ensure all objectives are understood and metTransform business to focus on quality standardization and systems improvementEnsures the effective functioning of the following departments:SMTPBA /Final AssemblyLABJustify/motivate for increase/decrease in personnelClose monitoring of process performance within the departmentCarry out performance appraisals on subordinatesProvide technical support to department and customersContinually assess and trainEnsure workmanship standards are maintained at an acceptable levelEnsure highest levels of housekeeping at all timeSign off on material variances that are significant and investigateAttend Manco meetings and present on department performanceAttend quality review meetingEnsure month end line side stock counts are performedAll completed job cards are signed off and closedWIP minimized by month endAll kits that have been produced are returned to storesHuman ResourcesLiase and consult with Human resources department and assist with the implementation of:Effective succession planningRecruitment and talent management and retentionTraining and developmentTransformation and BEEHealth and SafetyProvide a safe working environment, adhering to OHSE procedures, and ensuring that they are understood and in place and practiced by the team at all timesEnsure implementation and adherence to health and safety proceduresQualityGuide the manufacturing departments and assist in developing and implementing quality management strategiesCommunicate and implement strategy for quality improvement of quality issues across all departmentsTakes responsibility for ensuring compliance to PL's QMS in line with ISO 9001Identify risks and opportunities in the departmentIdentify any improvement opportunities for processesEnsure production processes are delivering intended outputsResponsibility of maintaining QMS documentation where your departments are concernedAssist quality department and other supervisors in achieving any other accreditations being pursuedSet and monitor product quality standardsImplement and enforce quality control and tracking programs to meet quality objectivesManagement and Leadership Conflict resolutionLeading an effective cohesive production team and managing performance within the departmentPromotion of BEE compliance, Employment Equity, Skills Development and health and safety standardsRepair and MaintenanceEnsure that the repairs and maintenance schedule is followed for all scheduled maintenanceAny non-scheduled machine maintenance/breakdowns are resolved timeouslyManage the maintenance team to ensure all maintenance functions are being performedEvaluate machinery to ensure correct Cpk is being achieved and arrange for maintenance/calibration with relevant suppliers as and when requiredManage subcontractors who manage maintenance on certain equipment (air conditioning, hoist, etc)Make decisions about equipment use, maintenance, modification, and procurement
